Major League Soccer Monday Wrap: LA Galaxy season stalling, Chivas USA in death spiral as both lose in aimless fashion

If you missed how the two local MLS teams performed over the weekend, you didn’t frankly miss anything.

But don’t take my word for it.

Here’s Galaxy coach Bruce Arena in the wake of the road loss in Colorado Saturday on a team seemingly adrift in a season that itself has yet to find much rhythm and seems to already be slipping away from LA:

“We just blew this game. There’s no excuses for us. We should’ve won this game. Very least get a point. We get a chance early in the game, we miss a penalty kick early in the second half, have a lot of possession, we don’t put a shot on goal, I don’t think for the game. I think Ishizaki’s, it was maybe blocked off the line, that was about the only shot on goal. It was terrible execution on our part in the final third of the field.”

Lame duck Chivas USA, winless in their last eight, were even worse in an almost literal pedestrian loss to Houston that even an early lead from the penalty spot could not prevent as coach Wilmer Cabrera fumed afterward:

“Then we started just to walk, we didn’t even put pressure on them, we didn’t figure it out, and it was a wake-up for Houston and they reacted very well, and they showed character and personality, and we didn’t.”

  • The next loss for Chivas USA: against Colorado Sunday.
  • Next Galaxy game: 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Portland against the Timbers on NBCSN.
  • Oh, and Omar Gonzalez, taken off injured midway through the game Saturday should be “fine” for the game in Oregon, Arena said.
  • Finally, from the Galaxy press release:
