U.S. Open Cup play begins Wednesday in Carson, LA Galaxy II hosts Cal FC May 14

usopencuplogoThe American answer to England’s knockout FA Cup begins anew at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carson’s StubHub Center when San Bernandino-based LA Misioneros FC of the PDL takes on Irvine-based PSA Elite  of USASA.

Up in Ventura the same night CD Aguiluchos USA of the NPSL face the PDL Ventura County Fusion at Ventura College. The winner plays Sacramento Republic May 14 in the second round in Ventura.

Tickets are on sale for the second round U.S. Open Cup LA Galaxy II-Cal FC game at 7:30 May 14. Cost is $5. Call 877-3GALAXY.

The Thousand Oaks-based amateur team, coached by Eric Wynalda, made national headlines two years ago after shocking the MLS Portland Timbers in the tournament and eventually losing to losing finalists Seattle.

The Galaxy’s reserve squad are tied for the USL Pro lead after beating the Charlotte Eagles 2-1 Monday night in Carson, extending their unbeaten streak to four games. Charlie Rugg and Chandler Hoffman scored for the Galaxy.
