Major League Soccer Playoff Video: Real Salt Lake 0 Los Angeles Galaxy 0

Our sister newspaper The Salt Lake Tribune has the game story and video.

Another unwatchable playoff opener with two teams unwilling to give anything away ahead of the second leg, which is set for 4:30 p.m. Sunday live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.

Quotable:

“Ugly game,” Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. “Lopsided in calls. The fouls were over two to one in our favor. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. It made for one crappy game for sure. … Next week, the game’s going to look a lot different.”

Let’s hope so.

Notable: The Galaxy are now winless in the last four games.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda been 1-1 if the offsides calls had been right. Still a tie, but better for the G’s. Or Keane could have passed off to Donovan or Zardes in that 4 v 2 breakaway.

It was bound to be an ugly game: RSL and the rest of the league know that the only way to beat the Galaxy now is by physically disrupting their ball-control game, if the ref will allow it. This time the ref allowed it. We’ll see what the ref allows next Sunday.

The wind made the teams look worse than they are, blowing all passes long in one direction and holding balls up in the other. Sunday is supposed to be a nice day, and everybody will be healthy. Should be a good game.
