Injury forces Mexico captain Andres Guardado to miss game against U.S. Oct. 9 at Rose Bowl

El Tri suffered a bitter blow today when Dutch club PSV Eindhoven announced that Gold Cup MVP and top scorer Andres Guardado will miss at least the next six weeks after an MRI showed damage to his ankle suffered in the UEFA Champions League game last week against Manchester United.

That means the inspirational 28-year-old midfielder will miss at least the next four four weeks keeping him out of the hotly-anticipated Confederations Cup playoff game Oct. 10 at the Rose Bowl that is arguably the biggest contest between the regional powers since the 2002 World Cup.

Here’s the full announcement in English from the club’s website.
