Although the LA Galaxy didn’t make a selection on the first day of the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday, the club announced two new signings, including 21-year-old forward Emmanuel Boateng.

After featuring for Sweden’s Helsingborgs IF, Boateng, a native of Ghana, will be added to LA’s roster as international, pending visa and transfer certificate approval.

The Galaxy have 26 of their 28 roster spots filled for 2016 after also signing forward Mike Magee on Thursday.

“Emmanuel is a talented, young, attacking player who will add valuable depth to our offense,” Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said in a statement. “He will continue to develop as a player and we are excited to add him to our roster.”

Boateng was named 2012 Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year while attending the Cate School, a boarding school in Carpinteria. He earned a scholarship to the school at 15 years old after joining the Right to Dream Academy, a soccer development program in Africa.

He played one year of soccer at UC Santa Barbara and signed his first professional contract with Helsingborgs in 2013. He scored four goals in 37 appearances with the club.
