Mike Magee’s return to L.A. just keeps getting better for the 31-year-old. The Galaxy forward was named MLS Player of the Week on Tuesday after his brace helped L.A. to a comeback win over D.C. United on Sunday. He also had an assist and drew a foul that led to a penalty kick in the Galaxy’s 4-1 win.
As he walked off the field, Magee, a fan-favorite from his days with the Galaxy from 2009-13, was serenaded with chants of “Magee! Magee! Magee is on fire!” He was traded during the 2013 season to the Chicago Fire, his hometown team, for Robbie Rogers, and went on to claim the 2013 MLS MVP award. He called his return to L.A. “surreal.”
Magee’s chip shot goal is in the running for MLS Goal of the Week. It was his first MLS goal since 2014.

The Galaxy trailed 1-0 at halftime when Magee was subbed on for Giovani dos Santos, who left due to a left leg injury. Magee’s corner kick led to the Galaxy’s equalizer in the 54th minute as defender Daniel Steres headed in the curling corner kick.
