After injuring his leg in the first half of the Galaxy’s season opener against D.C. United, goalkeeper Dan Kennedy is likely out for the team’s game against Colorado on Saturday, head coach Bruce Arena said.

It looked as it Kennedy injured either his hamstring or groin on a goal kick, defender Daniel Steres said after the game. Arena characterized the injury simply as a “muscle strain” while the team continues to evaluate the 33-year-old goalkeeper.

Brian Rowe stepped in to goal and had five saves in the Galaxy’s 4-1 win over D.C. United.

“Brian should be positioned well to do the job in Major League Soccer,” Arena said. “He’s been here long enough, he’s had enough experience in the league, he’s played enough games where there’s no reason to believe he can’t be placed in these situations were he can’t be successful.”

Giovani dos Santos, who was removed during halftime of the season opener, is also battling a muscle strain in his left leg. Arena said dos Santos “has a chance” to play Saturday, and will also continue to be evaluated.

Jelle Van Damme, who missed Sunday’s season opener with a right ankle injury, said he is healthy and ready to play against Colorado. The defender hurt it while blocking a shot in training two days before March 1’s Santos Laguna game and played 64 minutes in the Galaxy’s 4-0 CONCACAF Champions League loss. He said Wednesday that he never felt 100 percent comfortable during the game and that choosing to play “maybe wasn’t a good call of mine.”

“But that’s the way that I am,” Van Damme said. “I want to play in every game.”

Defender Leonardo got surgery to clean cartilage out of his knee and will be out “for a couple more weeks,” Arena said.

Alan Gordon (neck) did not train on Wednesday, but could be back on the field Thursday, Arena said.
