Despite being outshot 22-4, the Galaxy stole a point away from the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday on the road on a short week to extend their unbeaten streak to eight.

L.A., which was coming off a Sunday afternoon win over New England, even had a shot for the win, leading for 16 minutes, before a moment of poor goalkeeping from Dan Kennedy on a set piece led to the Philadelphia equalizer.

“We’ll take the point,” Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena told reporters after the game, “but you know when we get the second goal early in the second half, I thought we had to close the game down.”

Kennedy, who made his first appearance since injuring his groin in the season opener, got the start in favor of Brian Rowe, who was likely resting after the quick turnaround. Kennedy made four saves, but allowed two goals, including an early goal that came from a defensive miscue. In one of six changes to the starting lineup from Sunday’s game, Leonardo made his first appearance of the season coming off knee surgery. Daniel Steres, who had previously played every minute of every MLS game for L.A., rested.

While the offense continues to churn out goals, the Galaxy defense has only kept one clean sheet this year. L.A. has 17 goals in the past six games, but the only shutout this season was the scoreless draw on the road against 10-man Vancouver.

“You never like to concede goals whether it’s home or away, and to concede two goals away like we did today is not good,” defender Ashley Cole said. “We need to look for (shutouts) and work harder as a team because we need to keep clean sheets if we want to win the league.”

The Galaxy scored two great team goals, first from Robbie Rogers in the 15th minute from a Giovani dos Santos assist, and the second from Mike Magee in the 47th minute from Steven Gerrard‘s pass.
