Gyasi Zardes to miss remainder of regular season with broken foot

Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes will miss the remainder of the regular season with a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot, the club announced, Tuesday.

Zardes, 24, suffered the injury in Saturday’s scoreless draw against Vancouver. Zardes suffered the injury on a tackle by Vancouver’s Kendall Waston.

The injury also knocks Zardes out of the upcoming U.S. men’s national team World Cup qualifiers.

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said that Zardes is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday.

Zardes wasn’t the only player to come out of Saturday’s game injured.

Monday, defender Jelle Van Damme, who was taken off in the 44th minute with a knee injury, revealed via twitter that he had a sprained MCL and is expected to be out 2-3 weeks.

Also, midfielder Steven Gerrard, who left the game in the 31st minute with a hamstring injury will be out a “couple of weeks,” according to Arena.

The Galaxy faces Columbus, Saturday at StubHub Center.
