The U.S. Women’s National Team will compete in the Tournament of Nations, July 27-Aug. 3 with two locations in Southern California, including the StubHub Center in Carson.
The U.S will be joined by Brazil, Australia and Japan in the four-team tournament. The 
U.S. hosted the SheBelieves Cup in March. Japan is ranked sixth in the latest FIFA World Rankings, Australia is eighth and Brazil is ninth.
The format of the Tournament of Nations is the same as the SheBelieves Cup. Four teams will compete in three doubleheader events at the three venues over an eight-day period.
Brazil and Japan will open the tournament, July 27 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle at 4:15 p.m., followed by the U.S. and Australia at 7 p.m.
The teams will head to San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium, July 30 with Japan facing Australia at 2:15 p.m., with the U.S. and Australia at 5 p.m. The tournament concludes Aug. 3 at StubHub Center with Australia and Brazil kicking off at 4:15 p.m. and the U.S and Japan following at 7 p.m.
The winner of the tournament will be based on total points (three for a win, one for a tie), with the first tie-breaker being overall goal difference, followed by most total tournament goals scored, then head-to-head result and lastly, FIFA Ranking if necessary.
U.S. Soccer plans to host this tournament every summer during years that do not feature at Women’s World Cup or Olympic Games.
“It’s fantastic to play another tournament at home against some of the world’s best teams in a year after the world championship cycle,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis said. “It shows U.S. Soccer’s continuing dedication to growing the women’s game. These are three talented teams that we haven’t played in a while so we’re looking forward to a summer tournament that will be extremely challenging and valuable for our players and entertaining for the fans.”

The U.S. women’s national team begins play in this year’s SheBelieves Cup, Wednesday against Germany.
The tournament also features France and England.
England open the tournament against France on Wednesday (1 p.m. FOX Sports GO). The U.S. will follow against Germany at 4 p.m. on FS1.
The teams will then move to New Jersey for March 4 action. France faces Germany (11:15 a.m. FOX Sports GO), followed by the U.S and Englad at 2 p.m. on FOX.
The tournament concludes March 7 at RFK Stadium as Germany takes on England (1 p.m. FOX Sports GO), followed by the U.S. and France (4 p.m., FS1).
“We’ve now had two camps together this year and I’ve seen some good things across the board,” U.S. Women’s National Team coach Jill Ellis said. “Now we’re looking to translate that into three games against fantastic opponents. We will be greatly tested and these are the moments where you learn the most about yourself which is exactly what we need right now.”

With the senior team opening camp later this month, the U-23 U.S. Women’s National team will get underway Friday at StubHub Center.
The roster is a mixture of top players from the U.S. Youth National Teams, elite college players and four NWSL players.
The camp runs from Friday to Jan. 13.
Among the invitees is Ashley Sanchez (Monrovia). Sanchez played in both the U-17 and U-20 World Cups last year.

Even without a new collective bargaining agreement, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team will open winter camp, Jan. 13 at StubHub Center.
In the release, the U.S. Soccer stated: The U.S. Women’s National Team and U.S. Soccer will continue to operate under the Collective Bargaining Agreement in its current form as negotiations continue into the new year.
The camp will run from Jan. 13-23.
Former Santa Margarita HS star Amy Rodriguez is one of the 29 players being called in. Rodriguez took last year off for the birth of her second child.
Alex Morgan, who recently signed with Olympique Lyon, will only be available from Jan. 16-24 during the official FIFA international window.
As of now, there aren’t any friendlies scheduled. However, the U.S. will compete in the SheBelieves Cup

Ashley Sanchez of Monrovia was selected the U.S. Soccer young female player of the year.
The announcement was made Tuesday U.S. Soccer.
Sanchez, who will be attending UCLA in the fall, played in two women’s world cups this year. She was the captain for the U.S. U-17 team and then joined the U-20 team. She received 47 percent of the vote with midfielder Andi Sullivan receiving 27 percent.
Sanchez became the first U.S. youth player to score in both the U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cups in the same year.
At the U-17 tournament, Sanchez scored three goals and finished her career at U-17 level with 21 goals. She started all six games at the U-20 tournament, finishing with one goal and two assists.
Sanchez has committed to UCLA.
“It was a memorable year for sure, and even though we fell short at both World Cups, I know the experiences that me and my teammates had will last a lifetime,” Sanchez said. “It’s a huge honor to win this award and I’m really appreciative of everyone who voted for me. I also want to thank all of my teammates and coaches on the U-17s and the U-20s. They are great players and great friends and hopefully a bunch of us will reach our goals of playing for the full team one day.”
The U.S. women concluded 2016 with a 5-0 victory over Romania Sunday night at StubHub Center.
After a break for the holidays, Ellis expects to reconvene with a January camp. With some veterans on the way out, the two-game series against Romania afforded Ellis with a chance to see some familiar, younger faces in bigger roles.
“At this point, we have a camp in January scheduled,” Ellis said. “I think this is what’s been great about having a lot of different players in (camp). Now, it is about trying to pick a group for that.
“The other plan is there will be an under-23 camp that will happen prior to our camp and not just looking at under-23 players, but pulling potentially a couple of our best under-17, our best under-20s, our best college players … I want to see as many players as I can and having a camp prior to ours, if somebody does well, then they can stick around for a few days and train with us. That’s kind of how its done and that’s how we piggyback those two teams.
“Beyond that, the She Believes tournament is very important, big tournament and where we get to test ourselves.”
Ellis said the January camps would possibly be in Carson at StubHub Center, “unless the MLS teams are here hogging it.”
It is a time of transition for the U.S. women’s national soccer team, with several new faces vying for permanent spots alongside some familiar ones.
The U.S. will face Romania tonght at StubHub Center (6:30 p.m.; Fox Sports 1) in the final game of 2016.
One of the positions under the spotlight is at goalkeeper. The U.S. is without longtime start Hope Solo. Adrianna Franch (Portland Thorns FC), Ashlyn Harris (Orlando Pride) and Alyssa Naehere (Chicago Red Stars) were all called into this camp.
Harris earned the start in Thursday’s 8-1 victory over Romania at Avaya Stadium in San Jose. It was her third appearance of the year.
“Everything for the keepers is about game experience and decision-making,” U.S. coach Jill Ellis said following Thursday’s victory. “I don’t know how many caps between them Ash (Ashylyn Harris) and Alyssa (Naehere) have but it’s not very many. So the more you put them in these situations, this is what it comes down to.
“They can be brilliant in training and now it’s can they make good decisions in a game. That’s for every player. So everything is a takeaway at this point.”
Ellis initially called in just five players from the 2015 World Cup and Olympic Team (defenders Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg, Ali Krieger, midfielder Megan Rapinoe and forward Alex Morgan).
Klingenberg and newcomer Jaelene Hinkle were both replaced during camp due to injuries. Forward Jessica McDonald and Emily Menges were the replacements. This is their first call-up to the senior national team.
One of the young “veterans” in camp for this series is Christen Press. Press scored a hat trick in Thursday’s game and is the fourth player to score double digits goals this year.
“It is an interesting time for our team,” Press said Thursday. “We’re kind of ending a cycle and being reborn at the same time. It is great for us to go out there and get results but also work on our soccer.
“We’re playing a new formation, we have a lot of new players out there, so we’re trying to push and break the threshold. Even though we’re about to go into a period of break, we’re just trying to get the maximum out of ourselves.”
Alex Morgan scored a pair of goals in Thursday’s game, giving her 17 for the year and 73 in her career.
“This is an early process for us,” midfielder Tobin Heath said. “We’re going through a transition. Kind of getting up to speed and continuing this journey and path the way we want to play, incorporate the new players and continue to grow.”
The U.S. Women’s National Team will play its first game in Southern California in four years Nov. 13 when it plays against Romania (6:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1) in what will be its final contest of the year.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
