Fantasy Football: Week 3

| | Comments (1) |

What happened to the week 2 report? Let's just say I know what one participant in Major Fantasy League Soccer meant when he asked how much time it would require. Answer: minimal if you ignore it.

But I also know now Chivas USA Coach Preki feels as he grapples with his injury problems (again).

My fantasy team is without a goalkeeper.

First-choice Dan Kennedy went down early on and now former Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Wicks has joined him. I shouldn't have picked Wicks, but using Galaxy logic I needed a warm (and cheap) body to fill out the roster after picking too many expensive (and under-performing) players (get it together Dane Richards!).

Fortunately, unlike in real life, MLFS does not penalize coaches for including injured players on their roster.

Still, my team moved up into a dark horse eighth place (from 11th in week 1) in the 19-team 100 Percent Soccer division, benefiting from strong real-life play by Chivas USA, Seattle and the always dependable Landon Donovan. The South Bay's Robbie Rogers and even Darren Huckerby, formerly of my Norwich City, are letting the side down though.

The Galaxy usually hold the upper hand in derby games against Chivas USA, but I have a feeling this weekend will be different, so Sean Franklin has to go from starting in defense to sitting on the bench this weekend.

I wonder if Bruce Arena is already thinking the same thing?

(BTW, there is still time to join and there are a few spots open in the 100 Percent Soccer division). Check it out.

Fantasy Football: Week 1

The first week of MLS is in the books and that means so is the first week of fantasy football for those of us who believe we can put together a better team than real life coaches.

It's going to be a long season.

My team, the South Bay Boyz, is sitting 11th in the 14 team division, already 21 points behind the leaders, Hirudinae FC.

My team is made up largely of local products (including Rolling Hills Estates' Robbie Rogers, Palos Verdes' John Thorrington and Los Alamitos' Jonny Bornstein) with the likes of Norwich City's Darren Huckerby and impressive Jamaican Dane Richards (hence the name) thrown in for good measure. And, I have to say, they must do better.

There's room for another 10 or so teams over at the 100 Percent Soccer division so sign up and giggle over who I have in goal.

And go Zakuani!

Because I don't spend enough time on line I thought it might be a laugh to start a 100 Percent Soccer blog division over at MFLS.

It doesn't cost a dime and as far as I know there are no prizes. So with that sort of incentive come sign up, introduce yourself on the forums and lets have at it.

The new MLS season is just a week away. My team - the South Bay Boyz - leans heavily on local talent with a little Caribbean and Norwich City flair. But why did I pick so many players from injury-stricken Chivas USA?

Check it out here.

Space is limited, so don't delay.
