Chivas USA 3 New England Revolution 0
*Before we go any further, a quote from New England Coach Steve Nicol sums this one up:
“Every season you have a game where just everything goes completely wrong. Everybody has it. So we’re hoping this is ours.”
*Phil Collin has the game story.
Highlights:
*How bad were the Revs? Again, here’s Nicol:
“We were second best. We didn’t look sharp. We looked sluggish. The longer the game went on, the more sluggish we looked. The reason we worked so hard is because we kept giving the ball away and finding ourselves in bad positions.”
*Not so fun factoid (for the Revs): The Revs have now dropped four straight games to Chivas USA dating back to 2009, all via shutout.
*Said Nicol of the comically bad third goal:
“I’ve seen some funny goals in my time. It just kind of sums up what we were about tonight.”
*Chivas USA has still not lost this season with Dan Kennedy in goal. Since he took over in the third game of the season in the wake of two opening losses, Chivas USA have three ties and two wins.
And he’s conceded just two goals and boasts three shutouts:
“It makes it a lot more difficult for the other team when they have to really fight for goals,” Kennedy said. “We’re not giving up anything cheap. That makes the goals that we score that much more important. And we’ll get something out of the game when we score.”
*Meanwhile, Alejandro Moreno is this team’s top scorer with three goals:
“I’ll take them when they come. I’ve had years in this league where the work has paid off and other years where the work hasn’t paid off, but the one constant here throughout my time in MLS has been the work. I’ll continue to do that and if the goals continue to fall so be it. If not, you’ll still see me do the work, do the thing that has made me successful in this league.”
Attendance: 14,058.
Next for Chivas USA: at Real Salt Lake Saturday. The CONCACAF Champions League runner-up fell to a Kenny Cooper goal and lost their second consecutive game Saturday, this time to the Portland Timbers.
