NWSL: Mallory Pugh goes from UCLA to Washington Spirit

U.S. women’s national team forward Mallory Pugh’s UCLA career ended before it officially started.

Wednesday,  Pugh, 19, was officially introduced as a member of the Washington Spirit. She enrolled at UCLA last winter; participated in the spring games and was set to begin her freshman season next fall. Pugh made her international debut last January.

Southern California college players eligible for NWSL Draft

The National Women’s Soccer League released a preliminary list of players eligible for selection in next week’s draft.

The draft will take place Jan. 12 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention in Los Angeles at noon. There will be four rounds.

Of the 148 names, 14 had Southern California ties:

Jacqueline Altschuld (Woodland Hills) University of San Diego, Defender/Midfield/Forward

Rylee Baisden (Yorba Linda) Pepperdine, Forward/Midfield/Defender

Maddie Bauer (Newport Beach) Stanford, Defender

Jordan Jesolva (La Mirada) Santa Clara, Forward/Midfield

Katie Johnson (Monrovia) USC, Forward

Kaitlyn Johnson (Los Angeles) Washington St., Forward/Midfield

Savannah Levin (Newport Coast) USC, Defender/Midfield/Forward

Kayla Mills (West Covina) USC, Forward/Midfield/Defender

Amber Munerlyn (Corona) UCLA, Forward

Ifeoma Onumono (Rancho Cucamonga) Cal, Midfield/Forward

NWSL: UCLA women’s soccer will be well-represented in final

The NWSL final is set for Sunday between the Western New York Flash and the Washington Spirit (2 p.m.; Fox Sports 1) and the UCLA women’s soccer program will be heavily represented.

There will be seven former UCLA players in the match.

Five of the seven are with Western New York. Defender Abby Dahlkemper, midfielder Sam Mewis and goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland (all three played at UCLA from 2011-14), forward Taylor Smith  (2012-15) and midfielder McCall Zerboni (2005-08).

Defenders Caprice Dydasco and Megan Oyster, who also played at UCLA from 2011-14 are on the Washington Spirit.

Six of the seven were on UCLA’s 2013 NCAA championship team. Zerboni played in the NCAA College Cup in each of her four years at UCLA.
