A new day in Carson

Carson Mayor Jim Dear may have won his recall election yesterday, but that doesn't mean he can get his commission appointments approved.
Flushed with victory at tonight's council meeting, he tried to appoint Brian Raber (husband of former Councilwoman Julie Ruiz Raber, a Dear ally) to the Mobile Home Rental Review Commission, and Jan Schaefer (of YouTube fame) to the Planning Commission.
Though both have been rejected many times before, the mayor seemed to believe that the new spirit of unity should carry them through this time.
"It's a new day in Carson," he said. "Let's work together and move on."
No dice.
The council majority rejected the appointments on a 3-2 vote, as it was obvious they would.
What was new was that this rejection did not prompt a 20-minute spat, as it often does. Dear just moved on. A new day indeed.
