Does Elito Santarina know who he's for?

santarina_e.jpgIt's not clear that he does. In the mailer I cited earlier, he seems to endorse Gil Smith to replace Jim Dear as mayor of Carson: "I support Gil for mayor so we can get back to the people's business." OK, so what about this other flier, where Santarina says he supports Oscar Ramos?

VII.Q. Do you support Oscar Ramos?
A. Yes, I told Oscar, a long time friend and supporter of mine, I would support him for the short term vacancy that a successful recall will create.

Did he tell Oscar that he'd also be supporting Gil Smith on a Gil Smith mailer?

I called him to try to clarify, but he didn't pick up his cell.

This sort of confusion has happened before. A couple years ago, both Peter Mathews and Juanita Millender-McDonald claimed to have Santarina's endorsement for Congress. Santarina later explained that Mathews had taken his expression of support and friendship too literally.
