Sorry peeps, but Hermosa Beach hotspots Blue 32 and the Shore must still close early after allegations of overserving and overcrowding, the City Council decided in the wee hours this morning.
The body was split in both decisions -- the two votes were 3-2, with Mayor J.R. Reviczky and Councilman Kit Bobko dissenting both times.
I'll have more details in tomorrow's Breeze, but read this from yesterday's paper to get more background on the city's nine-month long process of cracking down on its nightlife.
And to tide you over until tomorrow's paper, I'll leave you with some highlights of tonight's/last night's doubleheader meeting:
1. For some reason, what seemed like a swarm of gnats or similar small annoying bugs were buzzing around the crowded City Council chambers. Yum.
2. (At least) one audience member appeared to be chewing tobacco. Double yum.
3. To curb crowds and police activity at Hermosa bars, one man suggested the council let these establishments stay open later and expand into bigger spaces to better accommodate more patrons. I don't think he was being sarcastic.
4. At about 11:30 p.m., a man who appeared to be intoxicated barreled into council chambers, demanding to speak and interrupting the discussion about rowdy local taverns. Ironic, yes?
Cheers!
