Put this somewhere on Laura Richardson's list of achievements. In just her first year in Congress, she has already made Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington's list of the most corrupt members of Congress.
Richardson, D-Harbor Gateway, earned this distinction thanks to her much publicized housing meltdown.
In brief, she defaulted eight times on three properties, lost one of them in a foreclosure auction, used home equity to fund her political campaigns, and was delinquent on $9,000 in state property taxes. Thanks to the good graces of her lender, Washington Mutual, she was able to get her Sacramento home back even after it had been foreclosed. WaMu even covered her tax bill, apparently as part of a loan modification.
That's the part that has CREW calling for an ethics investigation:

Because it is unusual for someone with such a deplorable credit history to be repeatedly approved for mortgages, the House ethics committee should investigate whether: (1) Rep. Richardson received a preferential loan in violation of House rules; (2) whether she had received other favorable treatment from lenders in the past; and (3) what, if any, official actions she may have traded to acquire these preferential terms. The South Bay hasn't been represented on this list since 2006, when Rep. Maxine Waters, D-L.A., was included because her family members had profited by trading on her name, particularly through the use of slate mailers.
