The Carson council voted 5-0 to go with option #2:

Councilman Elito Santarina said he ran it by some elementary school students, and they all liked it, which would seem to confirm my sense that it's kindergarten-y. He described it as friendly, and said that the sun shows promise for the future.

UPDATE: Here's the color version:

This is akin to the White Star Lines sending out a bid for proposal for a new deck chair arrangement after its flagship Titanic experienced an incident at sea. Stockholders (taxpayers) rejoice at monumental decision.
The Great Seal of the U.S. has survived without change and somehow after only a few decades things will get better in Carson following a redesign of the logo?
I always run plans to expend taxpayer limited funds by my Kindergarten classes. They are the most reliable source. They surely cannot ever be coached or influenced.
This is a waste of taxpayers money! Now the City of Carson will have to get all new busines cards, letterhead, etc. So now they will have to spend money on all of that when we are in the middle of a MAJOR recession and the city is talking about cutting back services and laying off employees.
I think Cuncilman Santarina needs to focus on the main issues in the City of Carson (i.e. the budget, schools, jobs, tax base) instead of wasting time on this. You can redesign the seal when times get better!
This Blog does not do justice to the new logo. The black and white version is misleading the color version is beautiful and fun. A new logo doesn't mean a large expenditure to Carson. We have no logo now. All Southbay cities have logos, not Carson. So why not get one that is modern?
Who cares...Carson is still the same .. full of crime, gangs, and trouble. Clean up the mess not get a logo.
