Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who is in Africa, is asking fans of Michael Jackson to help defray the costs to the city of today's memorial.
"Michael Jackson's music touched millions of fans across the globe," Mayor Villaraigosa said. "Donations will help the City of Angels provide the extraordinary public safety resources required to give Michael the safe, orderly and respectful memorial he deserves."This is costing the city something like $4 million. Also, the CHP probably spent quite a bit shutting down the freeways today.
