RECRUITMENT FOR APPLICANTS TO FILL A VACANCY ON THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES
The City of Rancho
Palos Verdes is currently recruiting for a vacancy on the City
Council which occurred on July 25, 2009, due to the untimely death of
Councilman Peter C. Gardiner. The recruitment is to fill the vacancy
on the five-member City Council for the unexpired term of office
ending December 2009. On August 4, 2009, the City Council of the
City of Rancho Palos Verdes directed staff to advertise for this
vacancy. According to State law, if the Council chooses to make an
appointment, the appointment must be made within 30 days from the
commencement of the vacancy.
Application Process
Anyone interested in applying for the Council vacancy must be a resident of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes and a registered voter. Candidates who have announced their intention to run in the upcoming General Municipal Election scheduled for
November 3, 2009 are excluded from the application process. Those residents interested in applying must submit a letter demonstrating their interest in the position and/or a resume stating their qualifications to the City Clerk's Office by 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 13, 2009. The Council will be interviewing applicants beginning at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, prior to the Regular City Council meeting scheduled that same evening. All applicants should come prepared to participate in the Council Meeting that evening, which begins at 7:00 P.M., in the event that they are selected to fill the vacancy. Agenda packet materials for the August 18, 2009 City Council Meeting can be downloaded from the City's website by Friday, August 14, 2009, or requested from the City Clerk's Office at (310) 544-5217.
