Torrance's Pothole Problems

Municipal crews have used 26 tons of asphalt to fill 3,500-square-feet of potholes on the 847 lane miles of roadway the city maintains since the recent rains began, Public Works Director Rob Beste said.

"We've been filling potholes pretty much nonstop," he told the City Council Tuesday. "While it keeps raining the only thing we can do is fill them with temporary asphalt - and it will get knocked out."

So crews will have to fill them in again. And again. And again - until things dry out so a permanent fill can be used.

Still, the problem could be worse, Beste observed.

The relatively recent reconstruction and repaving of large stretches of Torrance and Sepulveda boulevards mean those thoroughfares are pothole-free.

Crews will begin a similar job on Crenshaw Boulevard soon. The Breeze will give motorists a heads-up of where and when work will begin, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, if you want to report a pothole call the Public Works Department at 310-781-6900.
