Honorary Mayor of San Pedro

The winner of San Pedro's Honorary Mayor contest will be announced at a free reception from 5:30 to 7 Thursday night (May 19) at Ports O' Call Restaurant.

Candidates compete based on how much money they can raise for local charities, and whoever garners the most donations for his or her selected nonprofit wins. Running this year are Joe Buscaino, Joe Gatlin, Mitch Harmatz, Dave Martinez and Carla Negri.

Gatlin is running to benefit Barton Hill Neighborhood Organization. He is active on the board of trustees for the Port of Los Angeles High School and he is active with YMCA and the Juneteenth committee for the central neighborhood council.

Harmatz owns a gas station and automotive center and he is a lifelong athlete, a former teacher and coach. He is running to support Toberman Neighborhood Center, Grand Vision Foundation, and FINdings Art Center.

Buscaino is a Los Angeles Police Department officer who has worked a variety of administrative and patrol assignments, including traffic and emergency operations. His chosen charities are Harbor Area Boosters Association Inc., Boys and Girls Club of Los Angeles Harbor, Pedro Pet Pals and Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

Martinez is raising money for Port of Los Angeles High School. He is a part-time longshoreman and director of athletics at Port of Los Angeles High School.

Negri's roots are in community theater and she is supporting The Relevant Stage. She is a singer, actress and all-around performer as well as an active volunteer.
