Halloween continues to wreak havoc on the prep football schedule this week.

With four Thursday games already, there are two more changes for South Bay teams.

*The Del Rey League showdown between Serra and St. Bernard has been moved from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

*The Camino Real League matchup with Mary Star and La Salle has also been moved from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at Daniels Field.

Watch for more changes. It might be a good idea to call the host schools on the day of the game to confirm game time and locations.

How exactly does Halloween force game changes. I realize that the date of October 31, 2008 has only been on the calendar for oh, say, 400 years or so. Maybe it's the athletic directors that can't do their jobs properly and look forward to schedule their games according to the calendar. Same thing happens with football games played around the Jewish holidays in September and October. No wonder the schools are in the shape that they are in.

Mary Star is playing La Salle this Friday and not Cantwell. They played Cantwell last Friday.

La Salle plays Friday night 5 pm at Mary Star..Cantwell is hosting Bishop Montgomery at 7pm

Ciniglio graduated from Malibu High (home of the mighty Sharks) in 1997 as part of the school's second graduating class before attending powerhouse Pepperdine (Class of 2001), thus shattering any reader's preconceived notion that he has any personal bias when it comes to South Bay Preps.

Dave Thorpe

Dave Thorpe was a self-proclaimed, slightly above average baseball player back in the day at Torrance's West High, who went on and had an unspectacular, injury-riddled stint as a third baseman at El Camino College. Trading bat for pen, Thorpe wrote sports for the Long Beach Union newspaper at Long Beach State University, then worked as the sports editor for the Palos Verdes Peninsula News for seven years before climbing down the Hill to the Daily Breeze, where he has been a sports writer covering local sports since 2007.
