Narbonne blanks Carson, 26-0 ... The Gauchos finish 9-1, 5-0 and will be a very strong favorite to land the top seed in the L.A. City Section Championships tomorrow morning. Carson will go in as the Marine League's third-place team, and will be a VERY unwelcome opponent for someone in a first-round game, regardless of where they're seeded.
Unbeaten Serra (9-0, 4-0) and Cathedral (8-1, 3-1) are tied, 16-16, heading into overtime in a Del Rey League showdown.
Other finals that have come in ...
Torrance 31, previously unbeaten North Torrance 21
Lawndale 28, Centennial 26
Mira Costa 23, Redondo 6
Leuzinger 42, West Torrance 7
Venice 24, Westchester 12

For everyone waiting for Carson and Banning to return to its hayday, dont hold your breath. I know first hand Carson doesnt get the players it used to. My years (?), half my team didnt live in Carson, they came from Compton & LA...and 1 from Malibu. Only the samoan boys were from the area. Oh well those times were great, but I never thought I'd see the day when Narbonne and San Pedro would make it back to 4A and beat us easily, the credit is all theirs. Well best of luck to all the Marine league contenders and hope we can get that City trophy out of the Valley and back to where it belongs....in the "City!"
Congrats to the Bonne on the Marine League Championship. Good luck to all Marine League teams in the playoffs.
This was a tough year for all the Marine League teams. There wasn't a game that was not hard fought. One of the Marine league seeds has to has to get the title to bring respect back to our section. If we coontinue to perform at this level ....the talent will come..or at least stay home.
I'm anticipating a Narbonne-San Pedro city final. It would be great for the Marine league to establish another fierce rivalry at the championship level pitting consistently talented teams yearly, in the same spirit of the Banning-Carson rivalry back in the day.
congrats my fellow gauchos on winning the marine league. nice to see you guys at the top not like when i was there in the late 90's. congrats once again.
