Eagles should have Home Dirt Advantage

Coach Shevlin for Daily Breeze Coach of the Year

Serra v. ES is much more evenly matched than many may think. When ES seniors were Sophomore's Serra was supposed to stomp them and the Cavs were lucky to escape 14-10. Should be a great game, as ES v. St. Joe's was tonight. No patsy second rounder like Serra had in VD....

el segundo is going to state believe that serra canot match up with the eagles and montana is going to want to adopt bundy after he sees bundy is better than his son

Let's stay off the Ripple a bit...ES has every chance to beat Serra, but it's at best an even match-up. Let's not even get in to the recruiting machine from Westlake until we see if it is Cav's or Eagles....I'm guessing Eagles...

Unbelievable that someone would say that the defense pulled it out for El Segundo -- there were mistakes and kudos on both sides of the ball (the defense almost lost it with that last drive by the Knights--they should never have gotten that close). Wow...why would you show less than whole team support to get them past Serra?

The defense was in a hole all night long against a team with a great offense, huge line and many playmakers...there were tons of mistakes, no question. And the last drive was more than a bit scary/ugly, but this was no offensive showcase other than the last scoring drive...and to say anything other than the matchup with Serra is a great one that could go either way is myopic. All about the Blue and Gold, but let's be realistic....Serra is damn good and so is El Segundo. Going to be a great game...

17 points on turnovers go defense

17 points on turnovers go defense

The ES team effort will beat Serra. Mike Bundy has done more to represent team effort than most...here's to you, Mike, and your offense and defense. You are great and the team players--offense or defense -- support each other as a result of your leadership. For someone to place blame after a win sounds "defensive" to me.

GO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!!

This should be a game for one half only. ES would need to play the game of it's life to stay within 2 touchdowns of Serra. That team is loaded with Division 1 talent and ES hasn't played a team with overall team speed like this all year. The closest comparision would be Cathedral and ES lost by 20 points to the 3rd place team in Serra's league. Think about that..
Two years ago ES lost to Serra 14 to 10 and Serra was lead by what the DailyBreeze called the "Super Sophmores" Anthony Carpenter & Carl Winston. Well these two are seniors now and have Pac 10 scholorship offers. Both rated top 100 in the state of California. ES you have your work cut out for you just to keep it close. But having said that, you still have to play the game. So let's see how it turns out.

Anonymous, the posters on this and DB boards said El Segundo wasn't fast enough to beat Santa Clara or big enough to beat St. Joe's, yet they are still playing....Serra is very good and incredibly athletic, but don't think that the Eagles are at all intimidated. After all, most of their team played significant roles in that 14-10 defeat while the "super soph's" at Serra you mentioned were playing with a Senior laden group. It will be a game....

This will be a great game. This Senior group for El Seugundo and Serra both played one another two years ago. I was on the team two years ago and played with the seniors from El Segundo, Their hungry for this win.

It's been mentioned that the El Segundo vs Serra game will be at El Segundo. Is that correct? Serra is the number 2 seed in the bracket with El Segundo seeded somewhere below them. Does Serra have home field advantage?

No. It's my understanding that the game is at El Segundo and gametime is 7:00PM not 7:30. The game is at ES because of the fact that Serra has had two home games so far, in the playoffs, and ES has had one. In addition, I believe there were coin flips conducted in advance that also supports ES playing at home.
