San Pedro earned a share of the L.A. City Section Championship in football, and the Pirates are trying to raise funds for their championship rings.

Coach Mike Walsh said the team is trying to raise between $12,000 to $14,000 to pay for their rings after a dramatic fourth-quarter rally that saw the Pirates forge a 21-21 tie with Marine League rival Narbonne.

"For the kids, this is absolutely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Walsh said. "As coaches, we can keep going, but this is their time and their championship."

Donations can be made to San Pedro High c/o Mike Walsh, 1001 W. 15th St., San Pedro, CA., 90731.

I would make a contribution BUT since San Pedro went for the EASY tie INSTEAD of going for the Probable WIN, I think NOT. "NO GUTS, NO GLORY".

Instead of raising the total amount, why don't there split the cost with Narbonne and wear the rings for SIX MONTHS each?

Well i was watching the game and if i was the coach of San Pedro. I would of gone for the win, the heck with the tie. Tieing if for LOSERS. Besides Narbonne was winning and coach Walsh decided to tie Narbonne. I feel coach Walsh doesn't have a back bone. If San Pedro needs a good coach and one that plays to win and not tie give me a call. Well i guess my healthy donation will go to Narbonne, because i want to be with a winning coach and his team.

I'll be sending my check today. No matter how hard the naysayers try to rain on our San Pedro parade, I'm not going to let them steal my joy. Great bunch on kids, great coaches, great town!!! San Pedro High School...you gotta love it!!

O.M.G THAT'S A GOOD ONE NO GUTS / NO RINGS MAN UP PEDRO PEACE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again Tony C. for this forum! I totally respect everyone's right to their opinion-I really feel that many of the naysayers have never even coached a flag football game at Peck Park and God love-em! They are just fans and bless them for their opinions! It keeps things interesting to say the least and adds flavor to this blog. I hope that the negative ones at least contact Coach Douglas at Narbonne HS to donate to their ring acquisition program. I will give $100. to the Pirates for their Campionship rings! Coach Freddy or Coach Beach see me on Tuesday 1/13 to turn it in. All the best and Happy New Year to all!!!

Domenic, I'll give you $100.00 if you'll just shut-up and speak when you really know about something.

Dear Piperooski,

I was blessed to coach over 200 varsity high school football games-131 wins, 69 losses, and 2 ties. I am very grateful to have 5 L.A. City Championship rings- 4 for football and 1 for track and field. I am so glad you have an opinion. I believe it is somewhat reasonably apparent though, that I do know at least a little about this subject. I also leave my real name as well. I hope that you understand now. It's ok if you don't.

domenic, the offer still stands. I am unimpressed by your stats you lost more then half your games. it is quite obvious you were on the team but not a part of it. I am sure the trainer has the same resume. and by putting your real name does not mean anything it just solidifies my opinion of you. Thank God you coached at pedro or you would have missed out on your second tie. and by the way I will give you the 100 bucks right away i do not have to wait until payday (1/13).

Dear Piperooski,

I have come on this blog for 3 reasons: for entertainment; to inform what it's like to coach in LAUSD; and to encourage more community support for hs athletics. Thank you for responding and please bring your $s to any program you support. I know the coaches at either San Pedro or Narbonne would accept your donation to buy the rings for their players. My hope is that many, many others will do the same!

All the best,

DC

Dear Piperooski,
I have met alot of assholes in my life since I have lived in Pedro my whole life but you get the award for being the biggest!!! What have you done for the community? What have you done for anyone else other then for yourself? Why not put your real name? No balls or no vajayjay(in your case).... Come on down to Pedro High on Monday and present us with your $100.00 so we can give it to our great group of football players for a job well done!! Since they don't give out rings for being classless assholes like yourself maybe we can come up with something for you...like a kick in the ass!!

NOW THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT !

I hope none of these High School kids see what's on this blog....my gosh. My son played with the Narbonne football team at the coliseum. We can be proud parents and be happy that they made effort.

Reviewing the previous entries on this blog, and I noticed "Piperooski"'s comment re: Mr. Costa's coaching record of 131-69-2; " I am unimpressed by your stats you lost more then half your games." Last time I checked 69 was not more than 1/2 of 202 total games. I hope for the sake of San Pedro High School that "Piperooski" is not an alumnus...

Congratulations to both San Pedro & Narbonne on their City Co-Crown. It's a shame there wasnt an OT played. I can't fault Coach Walsh for going for the tie. A famous coaching quote by former Denver Bronco Head Coach Lou Saban back in the late 1960's & early 1970's was "half a loaf is better than none" when defending going for a tie with a superior Miami Dolphins team. In this case, a tie brought the Pirates a City Title & earned them the right to have & wear championship rings. I think years from now it's something the players will be very glad to have. Its not their fault that there wasnt an OT played, as there should have been.

Starting this commentary was to point out how Coach Walsh SHOULD HAVE gone for the 2-point conversion against Narbonne. San Pedro HAD the Gauchos back on their heels after an unbeliveable pass-play touchdown. Any clever play WOULD HAVE scored the easy 2-pointer. Walsh KNEW that to tie Narbonne would give the Pirates a EASY way to be Co-Champs instead of an outright City Title. Coach Walsh did NOT seem to TRUST his offense against the Gauchos defense, despite the crumbling of Narbonne's spirit. This is another example of how Coaches in the Marine League tried to win using the RULES to take advantage INSTEAD of the TEAM doing their job to WIN. (i.e. Bannings coach calling time-out to get the sunset rule applied to stop the game.) And Walsh kicking for the tie, INSTEAD of going for the WIN. Thus, OT was NOT needed, JUST GO FOR THE WIN.
