TN06-NARBONNEvsCRENSHAW-sh-337.jpgNarbonne receiver and defensive back Byron Moore has de-committed from USC and is exploring out-of-state options, the All-American confirmed to the Daily Breeze on Saturday.

Moore said he plans to make his decision on Signing Day on Feb. 4, less than two weeks away.

"I just wanted to find another place to go," Moore said. "I think it's just me wanting to go out of state a little more right now.

"I've been thinking about doing this throughout the whole recruiting process."

Moore is the second highly touted recruit from the South Bay to decommit from USC.

Carson tight end Morrell Presley decided to back off on his initial commitment to USC for UCLA and has already enrolled in classes in Westwood.

Moore mentioned Notre Dame and LSU as possible destinations. He took a trip to Notre Dame on Nov. 21 and has a trip to LSU planned for next weekend.

"I think I'll make my decision on Signing Day. I don't think it will be before that," Moore said.

Notre Dame might be an interesting choice because Inglewood All-American receiver Shaquelle Evans has made a verbal commitment there.

Moore had initially tried to recruit Evans to USC when their high school teams met in the season opener. Now it appears that Evans is trying to bring Moore there.

"We talk a little," Moore said. "He's been trying to recruit me there."

Moore had a memorable senior season for Narbonne. The first team Daily Breeze All-Area pick had 936 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 53 catches, added 744 return yards and four more touchdowns and had 83 tackles and three interceptions on defense.

He was the Marine League's Offensive Player of the Year , a first team All-L.A. City Section selection and helped Narbonne win its first upper-division City title after Narbonne tied San Pedro, 21-21, in the City final at the Coliseum.

Does anyone know if he's looking to play d-back or receiver? He is a better receiver than he is a d-back as he may lack the quick step to become a real good DB. But he should think about other schools other than USC especially since USC is going through some coaching changes. He can decide all the way into summer. There is no hurry. If he wants to become an Irishman, then he must have good grades like a 3.4 GPA even to play football over there. He must have pretty good grades. LSU however, he can have a 1.5 GPA and this will also get him into USC. I hope that he chooses a school which makes him happy and that he can play at and get some time his freshman or sophomore year rather than sit on the bench for two years and waiting his time to play. Good luck to him and he made a good choice by decommitting. USC will be going through a down cycle then next two years so its a good idea to try some other programs out.

Good post "Smart Move".

Must be a good student to have ND talking to him. While he is at it, why not consider Stanford as they are building up and if he can get into ND with his grades then he could definitely get into Stanford. I wouldn't go to USC if I was him because its evident he will be playing WR in college and USC likes those boys who are 6'3 and 6'4 at wide out and I believe he is closer to 6'1. Texas Tech is one he should think about or Boise State if he likes a throwing program or even Utah or Oklahoma.

I think a recruit has to go where he will feel comfortable and getting away from home will give Mr. Moore a valuable experience plus after watching him play over several years of his career, he will come back to LA to beat the great USC and let them know what they lost.

The picture is not of Byron Moore.

All of you guys sound like USC HATERS!!! There's no problem with him going to SC unless he's scared of competion!! Why wouldn't you want to play with the best team!! Even the second and third string guys make it to the NFL!! How many other schools can say that????

According to the Breeze photographers, the original photo was Byron Moore. But to remove any doubt, it has been switched to a game-action shot. Thanks for your input.

No one is hating USC Big Suave. Everyone knows that USC is the best of the best in competition. This doesn't mean that other schools may not be a better option for this player. There are about 116 D-1 football programs I believe, at least 100. The top 30 are all great and competitive. Yes, allot of 2nd stringers from USC go to the NFL but a player needs to walk before he can run and he's not even in college so its premature to start talking about his prospect of playing in the NFL. Moore is a great high school player but certainly doesn't have the speed as a skill player to play in the NFL someday because a 4.6 - 40 isn't going to cut it for a receiver to enter the NFL unless he develops more sprinting speed so if I was Moore, I would concentrate on what program is right for him and it really is nice that Moore worked himself into a position where he has more than one choice of where he can play his college ball at. Good for Moore to have these opportunities and I tip my hat to him. Slow down Big Suave.

first of all i coach at narbonne and byron is way faster than a 4.6....Go to his rivals page and watch him lock down top recruits at usc and different camps...he is a top sprinter...thats why he is an all american

I don't care if you are a Narbonne coach or not and rivals doesn't always post accurate times and rivals will put down times which coaches only tell them about 50% of the time. So you can throw those rivals times right out the door unless the time is based on an official lazer time and not hand held. No he is not faster than a 4.6 under any circumstance. Didn't Narbonne get their players timed over at Redondo's passing touranment by Velocity this summer? Not one player on Narbonne's team ran faster than a 4.6 that day and Velocity will tell you this fact so I don't know where you are pulling your numbers from coach. Just because the kid can run a decent 100 Meter this means nothing for 40 times as they are two totally different kinds of sprints. If you are his coach, what combine did Moore attend where he ran faster than a 4.6? It should be published somewhere. Nevermind his time on rivals as this means nothing at all! Nevermind USC's timing either if they told him that he ran better than a 4.6 because USC told everyone that Chauncey Washington ran a 4.3 and then once Washington got to the NFL combine Washington posted a middle of the road 4.5 so who has been putting coolaid in your water coach because what you say is a bunch of baloney. And "no" Moore is not an "all american" because he is a "top sprinter" and your statement is asinine. He is an all american because he plays terrific football but he is not an all american sprinter.

i said go to rivals to see his coverage skills not for his 40 time...and at the usc camp he ran a 4.52 and sparq was running the 40s not the usc coaches...call the coaches...moore was at the b2g camp the weekend of the redondo tournament so he wasnt even there. dont get on here and talk about a kid if you dont know him personally. get off the computer and get a life

hey coach it doesn't look like anyone said about knowing anyone personally makes any difference about anything and it doesn't look like that is the point the guy above was trying to make so read his post. He said that the guy doesn't have NFL speed and should be thinking about his college career before his pro career and that a 4.52 isn't fast enough for a NFL receiver and he is right about that. Let he kid get into the college he wants to play for first and forget the pro BS because that is what it is this early on, its BS this early on.

I was never a believer of the 40 yd. times especially when they mean nothing if you don't have other skills to match whatever speed you have. I think I saw Mr. Reggie Bush get rundown by Mr.Brian Urlacher of the Bears and he was a linebacker. Football is more about angles than pure speed.Speed helps only if you are running in a straight line, but when you are cutting or backing up, the 40 yd. times means nothing without quick feet and the fourty has nothing to do with that. i saw Mr.Moore return a punt against Creshaw in the play-offs and they are loaded with speed merchants and Mr.Moore sped past them using proper angles and whatever speed he had and he looked pretty fast to me.

i know what his post said...and im just saying dont talk about the kid 40 time and all that..he doesnt have all these top colleges calling him for nothing..he's not even thinking about the nfl, byron wants to graduate with a college degree
