Looks like the South Bay could have a rising boys lacrosse power in Mira Costa.

The Mustangs claimed the Carmel Invitational, going unbeaten in five matches, including a 7-2 victory over Oakland Bishop O'Dowd in the final.

Mira Costa also beat Thacher, 10-4, San Francisco Lick Wilmerding, 11-6, Scotts Valley, 12-0 and Bella Vista of Fair Oaks, 9-3, before dispatching Bishop O'Dowd in the final.

Thomas Farrell had seven goals and 10 assists to lead a high-powered Mira Costa offense. Joe Marielli had nine goals, and Dakota Randall contributed six goals and seven assists for Mira Costa.

Sean Donohue, who was an all-tournament selection, anchored the defense for Mira Costa.

"It was a great team effort with unselfish play and solid interior passing," Coach Dave Vinci said.

Palos Verdes went 1-3 on the weekend in a higher division, beating Cathedral but sustaining losses to St. Margaret's, Atherton Menlo and Rancho Bernardo. Mullen beat Rancho Bernardo in the bracket final.

Hey Tony! Did you go on vacation or what????? There's been a lot of drama in the HS sports world around here and you've got nothing here since 3/5. Glad you're back!

I'm surprised there's not more high school and college (NCAA) lacrosse coverage in the printed paper. I've heard enough about basketball, baseball and softball. Please bring us more lax coverage!

Since you are covering Lacrosse which is not a sport because its clearly a hobby for non-athletes; now why don't you begin to cover tiddly winks, Easter egg hunting, Slinkys, and horse shoes?

Really, lacrosse isn't any more or a sport than getting up in the morning and rolling out of bed is a sport.

Let's please stop allowing high schoolers to insult athletes by calling Lacrosse a sport and let us fill in the sport section of the paper with something which true, sports loving Americans are going to read and and enjoy.

Before you start covering Lacrosse, at least cover some local rugby and/or polo which at least people can agree are two sports.

Thank You

Concerned Citizen

In regards to Concerned Citizen's comments that lacrosse is not a sport are ridiculous not to mention ignorant. It is apparent this person has never seen or participated in this SPORT! This person needs to take the time and find out what the oldest SPORT in North America is and which NFL Hall of Famer was an All-American in lacrosse. It's obvious to me that this person excelled in Easter egg hunts and horse shoes in high school because they lack athleticism and the competitive nature it takes to play this SPORT!!!!!

Concerned Citizen:

Please check into rehab for your mind altering drug problem.

Anyway...how many lacrosse teams are there in the South Bay???

Having played and coached lacrosse in SoCal for 10 years (just moved to the South Bay from OC)...I'm curious about the scene in the South Bay. Send me a line @ woodley.robert@gmail.com
