south beat west 21-14

I am very happy that I watched South beat West tonight eventhough I had no skin in the game beause it lived up to be a rivaly classic for sure. I am glad I went. Let me give you the skinny before the writers of the Daily Breeze screw it up. West sucks. All they have is #44 and he hurt his knee early in the game otherwise West would have beaten South 75 to 7. Without #44, West really is a weak-weak team. Ronnie Clark stinks and Slowey stinks and they have no one on that team worth a damn other than #44. South has some talent, allot more than being a 0-3 going into this game so their head-main coaches must be horrible and South's OC almost lost it for them because they should have won 48 to 7 and he never ran off tackle and never ran a bootleg pass play. WHAT WAS THE OC FOR SOUTH THINKING?????? South's OC tried running the ball up the middle 10 times and each time they lost yardage and he kept on trying to fit a peg in a round hole. They need to fire their OC tomorrow. This Haydook character is terrible. He finally noticed that pressure on a QB can win a game or two. #7 on South likes to hit and he saved South's a*ss all game long and he should be the defensive player of the year for the Pioneer league at the end of the year. #5 for South is a stud and a great receiver and saved South's a*ss on offense and made a professional catch in the end zone to lock the game down! #21 for South is a stud but the OC doesn't know how to use him. He answered West's opening drive TD with a return and took it to the house. South dropped a ball with a wide open receiver and it hit him in the hands for a TD and the kid dropped it. That reciever has cement for hands and he may want to cut his hands off after that second dropped ball. He should have benched himself because he dropped another easy pass right into his hands which was embarrassing. If I was him I would quit football. Anyway, Mira Costa only has to worry about PV this year because West is terrible without #44. If I was West I would really start worrying about losing all their games in the Bay League this year if #44 stays hurt. Whoever said this Ronnie Clark QB is good anyway? He should start practing throwing with his other arm and he may have better luck and this Slowey kid better not think that he can play at the next level because Panter Football would be more of a fit for Slowey. Anyway, South is a much better team than being 1-3 and the head coach should be ashamed that they are not 3-1 at the moment and West should be the 1-3 right now.

Mark Gabriel: Dude what the hell do you know. Shut your hole... Period. My eyes burn from having to read your asinine remarks. Are you a coach? Do you know why they did not run outside? Do you know West's Strengths and Weaknesses? Did you speand hours breaking down file all week. Wait I am sorry you must have. Until all of you have been in a coaches shoes, just stop. Did you actually watch the game? I am so sick of reading everyones criticism. How about some positive remarks.

I watched and listened to last weeks game and was glad we won. I also read and pay attention to these blogs and feel a deep compassion for The Slowey family after enduring so much ridicule over just a small article and a kid who's being played in the wrong position.
Last week when He was in the game and he bombed a long punt. Why isn't he still in there bombing punts? And when you guys try and fail to get a first dowm and then go on 4th down and fail everybody knows what the f,,,,, going on.
Instesd why don't you put in that midget kicker you have. I've heard he hit one from over 50 a few weeks ago.Don't transgress, Coachs get smarter.Or Ask Me YOU KNOW WHO

Like I always say...you never know what is going to happen in High School Fottball! Tonight South 0-3 upset West 3-0 and showed alot more heart than they get credit for. For the most part, West was owning South from the start. Running when they wanted to on offense. Keeping South flat 0 yardage on defense. Throw a Spartan kick return for 6, a couple of fumbles by West, fall asleep in the 3rd quarter and score 0 points, and now there is blood in the water and the Spartans came to feed!
Congratulations South! You did not give up much, and you took advantage of everything we gave you! I hope you guys can knock over a few more W's this season!

Narbonne 37 O.Lutheran 31 2OT

Good lord, can Hawthorne just give up football already?? How the hell can you lose 55-0 to fricking CENTENNIAL? CENTENNIAL?! Why do they even continue to field a team? How embarrassing.

What an incredible victory by the Narbonne Gauchos against Orange Lutheran at Orange coast college.. Made even more incredible by the numerous very questionable calls in the game.

Watch out for the "G-House"...
Go PANTHERS... Put GARDENA in the top 10

Thank you for putting your name down. Now we will all know you are a spiteful negative person. I'm sure you tell 8 year old kids that there is no Santa.

South has been getting killed in these blogs for last three weeks. Please let them have one night to enjoy the victory. Obviously the coaching staff and players turned the corner on what was looking like a very long season. With one returner on defense and two on offense it was going to take some time. The new energized 4-4 defense, pass protection and the maturation of the South QB was the difference.

This is also the only victory the Pioneer League has had over a Bay League opponent this year. But I guess that was lost in your venom as well.

Mark Gabriel is the worst that these blogs create. Please spend your money somewhere else, South does not need your $7 if it comes with strings attached. You are ugly, hateful and totally unwelcome.

Gardena deserves to be in the top 10.

West did not own South. I went to that game after watching Vista Murrieta pound Peninsula.

Had West stuck to the running game between the tackles all night, and when it did pass, keep going to the slot receiver screen with more speed at that spot ( South never lined up to properly defend it, never )the outcome would have been different.

South WR's dropped two certain TD passes that resulted in 0 points for the remainder of those possessions...one in the end zone, the other on a crossing pattern with nobody left between the WR and the goal line but 10 yards. Also, one of South's DB's jumped a WR screen route and dropped a sure pick 6. That is a gimme 18 points before xtra point trys.

Yes, #44 went down with an ankle injury, but I think West missed him more on D than on O because their blitzes were no longer effective without him. South's QB never underthru anyone, just overthru when he did miss. Maybe by design, that cuts down on turnovers?

Nobody is going to run on West this year, and middle screens and Slot screens thru the middle are not going to work either....it is their secondary that can be torched, and was by South all night.

Congrats to South, that was a hell of a game! You could feel the emotion swell in the stands, and I was on West's side of the stands.

The momentum turning point in the game was when West fumbled @ the South 6 yard line when it appeared they would pound it in for the TD but instead of running between the tackles, ran a lateral movement run...go figure when they were pounding South between the tackles. West would have gone up by two TD's....

The 1st poster is an idiot.

Clark played well until his O line tired down the stretch and he had to scramble the rest of the game.

Mark Gabriel...what an idiot. I attended this game too, and you seem like a frustrated with life person.

If mistake free football was played by both South and West tonight...South blows them out.

South had three sure TD's dropped. One in the end zone, one on a crossing pattern, one by the DB with nothing but momentum and open field in front of him.

West fumbled deep in South territory that would have been a two TD lead had that not happened.

South played inspired all night long. West missed
#44 after he went down with an ankle injury, more on D than on O in my opinion.

South linemen are in better physical and cardio shape...West's O and D line wore down. That was very apparent.

Gardena hasn't played any1 yet, just wait umtil Marine league play starts, they weill beat washignton and thats it! lol

Yes, Gardena is playing like a top-10 team and definitely a Marine League contender! Another impressive victory for the Panthers (4-1). Next week a bye, then hosts Banning (1-3). Sorry Banning Pilots, Gardena is going to take you down...and I do mean "sorry-Banning-Pilots". LOL

Eventhough our Banning Pilots had a rough preseason, We will bounce back in Marine League and be on top once again. So Carson, San Pedro, i guess Narbonne, and Gardena, watch out...the Pilots will come on top

you're delusional. banning's not winning anything with that QB.

Who is the head coach over at Banning these days?

City Championships/4A (11) - 1958, 1960, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1985, 2000...Finalists/4A (8)- 1961, 1975, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1998...Invitational Championships/3A (1) - 1999...Long Live the BANNING PILOTS...The Notre Dame of Los Angeles City high-school football!!! Booyah!!!

PilotsGetDown - I like your post and no doubt that Banning has the greatest history of winning above any other high school in the country but their time is over. They don't have the same districting they use to have when they could recruit over the other side of the tracks. Its over, not to mention that other schools now recruit now and when Banning did it, no one else knew what recruiting was back in the winning Banning days.

This is true we do have a strong history in the city and most of those city victories were over Carson and Carson got a few on us as well..to tell the truth alot of coaches/players who played for Banning did great things but where ever they go or who ever they coach by the end of the day they are still a Pilot...but every skoo has a down fall..but the Pilots will be on top of the CITY once again..

SeaHawks on the come up

Demographics have changed in Wilmington. Banning isn't getting the athletes they used to get. They are either going to Carson or Narbonne. The only football championship Banning will win is Soccer.

If the City is so good(Carson, Narbonne, San Pedro, the 'Shaw), why is one of its greatest stars in the last 20 years such a horrific coach?

Ale (from Carson, right?) is pathetic. At least the coach at Lyola had the guts to admit he wasn't up to the job and resigned.

Ale continues to take a paycheck from Torrance Montgomvery and should be ashamed of it. He was a great City star, but as a coach...he's terrible.

Hey PilotsGetDown; Check this out. COLT City Championships/4A (11); 1967, 1971, 1972, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1999, 2003... Finalists/4A (10); 1973, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1992, 2007. Also, the Colts don't do 3A titles! As one commenter said, the demographics have changed. It's time to focus on "futbol/soccer" championships. Wake up and smell the coffee.

You Carson, Banning, San Pedro and Banning guys are still all missing the point which is City League sucks in comparison to CIF these days no matter how many teams you can send to the City Championships each and every year. You will still lose those preseason games to the CIF and Bay League teams and get hammered by Serra no matter what anyway.

Set City Straight: Define "preseason games". Some seasons the Marine league does well in intersectional battles and some seasons they don't. However, "us" Carson, Banning, San Pedro, Narbonne and Gardena guys usually care about "postseason games" and the TITLES that go with it! Unfortunately, the Bay League wouldn't know too much about "post-season section titles" would they? As for Serra, shouldn't they be playing in the same league as Mater Dei, Bishop Amat, Loyola, Orange Lutheran, Servite, & the like? Until then, cry me a river baby! Peace :)

This is true all that matters in the city is the post-season as far as CIF LB poly pretty much have ran the southern section for years..but other than that EVERYone knows that the MARINE league runs the city because Banning/Carson has 22 city champs alone..so therefore who can mess with Marine league alone...

Bloody PILOT

That's right BloodyPilot! Without the Marine League and the Banning-Carson, San Pedro-Narbonne rivalries, the Bay League and the rest of the South Bay wouldn't have a barometer to measure EXCELLENCE and no clue of what high-school football games -with packed out stadiums and community support- are really about. I'm sure you'd agree to this analogy; "as the Marine League is to the Pac 10, the Bay League is to the WAC!" Have a fun season BloodyPilot!

This is true and the season will go on...One last blog i do miss those good ole dayz at Banning High

C/0 2005

Just asking here because I do not know: which ex-Marine League players are currently in the NFL?

I don't believe that the long term forecast for the Marine League looks to promising. I believe the sunset has arrived on their greatness years ago. It does not matter that they end up in the championship either because the city teams just don't have the flare they use to have. The game has change for the most part. Running dominance has been take over by passing dominance and sophisticated offensive schemes and good QB's are needed. The City teams don't have the QB's entering their leagues as these people seem to end up in the CIF.

Its simply a matter of altered demographics.

It is so sad seeing Hawthorne like this.. I remember when we used to crush south bay schools..The only competition we felt we had was Peninsula..

@David Solomon: Regarding your humbling question, "which ex-Marine league players are currently in the NFL?" I'm afraid there are none. Now you answer this question, which instrument did you play when you were in the band in high school? lol...

Colt Love: lol.....My dad was a 1st class asshole and would only allow me to play basketball, although football and baseball were my passion, so I live vicariously thru my kids to an extent.

But since you are a Marine League guy, and I am now a Bay League father...we have 3 players currently in the NFL...

Super Bowl Champion (Steelers) and Super Bowl participant (Cardinals) 13 year veteran Clark Haggans from Peninsula High

Tennessee Titan Tight-End Craig Stevens from Peninsula High

San Diego Charger Safety Kevin Ellison from Redondo Union High

and in the next two years there will be a few more as long as they stay healthy.

Get one coach over to Hawthorne they could turn around that program as their best players end up going over to Serra. As I say, once good coach going over to Hawthorne and injecting some discipline and they could get on the map again.

Marine Ballers : 6 of the names you mentioned do not show up anywhere on the nfl.com current or historical players list.

Now, it could be that you have spelled their names wrong...because your " Noamdi Asamonga " is really Nmandi Asomugha...and as a historical fact...he played at Leuzinger High, then transferred to Bishop Montgomery, then transfered to Narbonne...so do we get 1/2 credit for him?

N.Asomugha played 3years for Narbonne then went to CAL & had a brother that went to Stanford who
might play in the NFL...I might not of spelled the names correct, but you can see what league is stronger & put out talent to colleges & NFL...

@Marine Ballers...show em' right baby! woo-woo...@Sad Cougar, yes sir these are hard times for Hawthorne. Maybe they should change their names from Cougars to Kittens...(pussy-cats to be exact), no pun intended! lol...

Get one good coach over to Hawthorne and talk to the players in the Hawthorne area and convince them not to transfer over to Serra and then you have a winner. The school has 2900 students and if they cannot find good players in a huge school with 2900 players, then I don't know what to tell you. It comes down to coaching. All four Torrance schools have between 2000 (South) and 2300 (Torrance High) students and the City of Torrance always manages to have one or two of their four schools put out a good season each and every year so there is no excuse why Hawthorne cannot turn it around based on the numbers alone. I say put all four Torrance schools into one school with one team and draw from 9000 students and put out a national championship each and every year. Speaking of that, Luezinger has no excuses for not winning their league each and every year as they have over 3400 students. What a joke Luezinger's coaching staff must be in that they cannot win their league each and every year with all of those students.

Leuzinger absolutely has the most talent in the area with horrible coaching. When my kid played at Pen, we just could not believe that we would beat Leuzinger every year. There is just a huge list of talent, had they been developed thru better coaching, that would have made even a bigger impact. I sure hope Mark Rodgers gets his chance at West Virginia after Noel Devine graduates.

PV if coached correctly, will be a powerhouse for a while. They have @ 90% of the pop warner national championship team from a few years back.

Marine Ballers....hat's off to you...you proved your point!..Bay League has 8 players that made it to the NFL in the same time period.

I agree..Hawthorne needs better coaching.. And i keep reading about the Marine League and the City Section Blah blah blah.. I knw during The 90's the city section could not touch Southern Section on any level. At Hawthorne we played San Pedro 2 years in a row and crushed them.. They went on to go 13-1 and win the city easily. My senior year we played Dorsey 28-6.. They went on to play in the city championship. WE tried to play Carson, and they declined.. We tried to play Narbonne, they declined.. The city has 4-6 teams and 6-4 teams making the playoffs. Then they play the same teams they played in regular season.. In southern if you lose 3 games your playoff run maybe over..

@sad couger: blah, blah, blah, oops I meant meow, meow, meow!

@sad couger: blah, blah, blah, oops I meant meow, meow, meow!

@sad cougar: In the mid-90's, San Pedro won the 4A City title in 1996 (14-0) and 1997 (13-1) That lone loss came from an upset at the hands of Washington 12-10...The Pirates also won two 3A titles in 1992 (12-1-1: a tie to Dorsey and a loss to Carson) and 1993 (13-1: a loss to Banning).....Get your facts STRAIGHT before you come on here yackin'...Wake up Dorothy, you're in Kansas!
