Carson and Narbonne battled in a crucial Marine League game tonight, and it got off to a thrilling start as each team returned its opening kickoff for a touchdown. Carson went ahead, 21-20, at halftime, then kept alive its goal of an outright league title with a 41-28 victory.
San Pedro celebrated Homecoming with a win against Gardena and stayed on track for no worse than a third-place finish in the Marine League. The Pirates tangle with Carson next week.
Redondo slipped against Palos Verdes Friday afternoon on its way to setting up a possible 4-0 vs. 4-0 duel with rival Mira Costa for the Bay League title, while Mira Costa rolled over Leuzinger to remain on track for an outright title. West Torrance took care of business at Peninsula.
Lawndale lost its first Pioneer League game (to El Segundo, which is primed for a second-place finish) and now closes the regular season against league-leading Centennial (6-3, 4-0) in Week 10.
Mary Star lost to Verbum Dei in a battle of previously unbeaten Camino Real League teams.
Unbeaten Serra rolled to a nonleague victory Saturday to set up a battle of Del Rey League unbeatens with Cathedral next week.

So far tonight, I have hit with 100% accuracy and will comment in the morning. To the bank you can go with my predictions.
Hey Rock nice Wing-T. When is the AD going to get a clue and get rid of this guy once and for all. T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E!!!!
Wow, Mira Costa destroyed Leuzinger. Can't wait to see the comments on this one.
If I've done the math right, next week in the Bay League...
Mira Costa (4-0) / Redondo (3-1) is still for the league title -- if Redondo wins both are 4-1 and Redondo would have the edge head to head. Loser gets second as Redondo beat both West and Leuzinger head to head and Mira Costa can't be caught for third.
West (2-2) / Leuzinger (2-2) is for third. Loser finishes fourth as both beat PV and Pen.
PV (1-3) / Pen (0-4) is for rivalry pride and avoiding the cellar. Peninsula has looked awful; PV is better than its league record suggests. Peninsula will need a minor miracle to avoid going winless.
So far I picked every game in the Bay and Pioneer and the Ocean and Marine League perfectly. Now if Serra and Chadwick win I score 100%. To the bank you can go with my predictions once again.
We expected a little more out of the Olympians tonight. First time seeing Lose-inger. Looked like a bunch of bums. Not sure how they did as well as they did this year. Sorry to see your team go down the tubes. I guess it is all up to Redondo now who slipped up themselves tonight. Looks like the Bay League is pretty much spoken for with one more deciding game at West:
1. Mira Costa
2. Redondo
3. West
4. Leuzinger
5. Palos Verdes
6. Peninsula
Carson spank Narbonne Gachos!!! ( no that was not a spelling mistake...Carson let's get ready for that LA City title run....oops got pedro next week.... No problem Carson by 3 touchdowns
Green, you expected more out of the Olympians tonight but I didn't. There are no excuses for their lazy but*ts either. They have 3600 students at that school and should be winning every game they play by 30 points. This is a sign that their coaches are pathetic at best and should be fired. This is the time of year were the posters must sound off about what coaches should be fired in each league and the Leuzinger head coach should be toward the top of the list of coaching staffs which should be fired. There is no excuse for the Olympians doing this bad this year and the two other years before this year. With 3600 or more students that a college, not a high school and there is no excuse for their pathetic play and it isn't the lack of talent over there.
Does anyone really think redodo has any sort of chance against Costa next week? Seriously?
Coach Steve Shevlin for Coach of the Year honors.Way to go Eagles and stopping Lawndale's title run. Can you believe not one Torrance school is going to the playoffs this year. Go Eagles
There are a number of local coaches on the ropes tittering on losing their job. Fans can all help by giving their input and the hopefully the AD’s can read these posts and it will help them make a well informed decision and do the right thing.
Starting with Torrance High School, this person has had a losing record almost his entire career. Who wants to sound off about him? The North coach may have saved his job by hammering South tonight but they were 0-3 going into this past game and pulled it off, but this one is a 50/50. Anyone want to sound off about the North coach? Next is the Banning coach, once a force but with the different alignment in the intercity of which athletes he can get and who he cannot get, he now has a dismal record and he is almost 70 years old and his the future of his program doesn’t look very good. Does anyone want to sound off about Banning’s coach? Next it West, when they had the talent of Brian Baucham this West coach looked like a hero but it turns out that the team’s record was directly attached to the success of a wonderful running back and since Baucham graduated (lack of a better term) this West coach has a terrible record yet had some good talent but what went wrong? Who wants to sound off about the West Coach? Next is Washington, they are a really bad team and a bad program and they have no chance of winning the Marine League with their staff but would anyone else want to coach out there? I don’t know but who wants to sound off about Washington? Next is South, plenty of years to make it and this coach hasn’t done very much to write home about and lost to a 0-3 team tonight by over 40 points and will end the season with another loss after they face ES. Who wants to sounds off about the South coach? Next is Leuzinger, the team which has the most students but one of the worst records the past few years and no matter how you look at it, this staff has serious problems. I am sure many people want to sound off about this team? But who can forget Bishop Montgomery in this list? They at one time had a power program but that was many many years ago and now everyone feels sorry for the poor kids when they play. The coach seems to know something about football but they cannot seem to put a winning record together. Whose fault is this? Is the league too strong or what? Does anyone want to sound off about Bishop?
Did we miss any coaching staff here which belongs on this list?
Torrance- either a new offensive scheme or new coach.
North- he's fine 2 CIF championship apperances and some good seasons.
South- he's 50/50 south boosters think they have a say with who coaches at south. But I think he should stay
west- bauchum pretty much made west. West coach has an 0-9-1 season under his belt
Luezinger- I think he's safe maybe not the season they wanted but I think he's safe
bishop - will lose noatter whose their.
Not every school is going to have athletes year in and year out. Going year by year you build strengths and weaknesses. I noticed Torrance was the first you picked. I agree their season hasn't been great, but if you have noticed they have been somewhat plagued with a couple key injuries but have still fought and stayed in the game until about 4th quarter. Lawndale and Centinneal are no schools to joke around with this year, they have improved their game with key players and new coaching.
is there any reason y torrance is doing so bad? if so then torrance keep it up cause yall lost 8 straight games no way ur guna recover in a week to beat north. so best of luck in coping with yet a nother loss next friday at our home turf last senior game 7 p.m . heres to making sure torrance losses 9 STRAIGHT games.
Outstanding performance Mustangs!! Outstanding! I'm just wondering where's "Leu's House" and "Lex Luther", waiting to see if they'll post? "Leu's House" was specifically commenting week before last that Leuzinger would demolish Mira Costa because we didn't have any speed to match their players? I tried to forewarn them, but I was crazy according to him? Not! K-Nunn (#19) returned a punt for a TD and on defense caught up to the #17 receiver of the Olympians and tackled him from behind, displaying Costa speed, R-Wright (#2) broke a long 40+ yard run right up the middle of the field for a TD and where was the Leuzinger speed, nobody could catch him, M-Reece (#6) had a rough start running in the 1st Qtr, but the rhythm kicked in and he had speed to score his TD too! Regarding our defense, too much speed for Leuzinger all night! Costa flew to the ball and just shut the Olympians down! I'll just say this, the class of 2010 of Costa has beaten the atheletes of Leuzinger's class of 2010 since they were Freshman ...? And people had doubts about Costa beating Leuzinger, what! Never crossed my mind that Costa wouldn't win, but 45 to 6 was a statement! Costa is Legit!!!!!
I believe this to be the ending to a few coaches in the Torrance High School District.
I would like 2 see Carson and Costa play!!
To MustangFan
Don't hold your breath waiting for their posts.
Last night was a nice win. The Mustangs looked good on both sides of the ball. The Olympian center had a tough night that didn't help their cause at all. One more win for another Bay League Title. Go Costa!
"K. Sparks" - I agree with you! That would be an excellent game to see! Can you imagine how it would be talked up! The meeting of two teams with Mascots of the Mustangs and the Colts! Both teams will trample over each other to secure a victory! My pick, Costa by 10!!!

If South finds this type of mediocrity acceptable, by all means continue with Josh Waybright as head football coach.
After all South could do a lot worse than Waybright, just look at the situations at Hawthorne and Peninsula. I personally believe it is time for a change, but that's just my opinion.
Spartan Football a very straight forward post. Its not acceptable any longer. They just got beat up by a team which was 0-3 in league. I wasn't there but I heard it was ugly. The facts are the facts. Its time that the AD and whoever else gets real and decides to take a different path over there. This present coach had plenty of years to turn things around. Its the end of a chapter and its just the ripe time to find a totally new coach and start anew. I am sure that their coach can find a new gig at another school if he wants to continue to coach, but the wise thing to do is for the AD to put notice out there in the coaching world for people to submit applications and find a new coach and new staff. They need new blood. Banning and Torrance High School also need to do the same thing by the looks of it.
bitchesssss
To "jrmchs" It's always important to be confident, but never arrogant! If that wasn't your intention my apologies, but humility is always important. Costa just needs to come out next week against Redondo and protect the ball and execute like a surgeon with skills and they can improve to 8 - 2!
Dittos Mr. Wright. And don't forget those 2 losses were against some really big strong programs and there were no roll overs in that scheduling on Morrow's part.
PV top 2 in bay league bar none
WOW U LEFT THE TERRIBLE PROGRAM OVER THERE IN INGLEWOOD MORNINGSIDE HIGH SCHOOL THEY JUST NEED TO GET THAT A PLAYER THAT WHEN TO THE SCHOOL CAN COME BACK AND COACH THAT A JOKE GET SOME NEW BLOOD OF THERE PLEASE AND HOWTHRONE WHO USE TO BE ONE OF THE CLASS OF THE SOUTH BAY JUST STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN PLEASE GET THOSE COACH THE DOOR
Here I am Mustangfan. Congrats on your win. While I did pick Leuzinger to win the league, also remember what I said about the Leuzinger staff and fan - coaches. Also remember what I said about the greatness of Costa's staff.
Also remember that I picked Carson to win the Marine league, Centennial to win the Pioneer and for West to beat PV. Three for four ain't bad!
What's up "Lex Luther" :-) Glad to hear from you and well said my brother, well said and thanks for your classy response! I've got a twist for you though? What if SP beats Carson on Friday, than you'll have a 3-way tie in the Marine League, what do you think about the possibility of that happening ...?
Pedro will give them a battle, but I don't see any way that Pedro wins. Carson is VERY impressive, big, fast and physical - and like Costa, is very well coached. Carson is good in all facets, O, D and special teams.
Leuzinger got whopped. One thing no one is talking about is that leuzinger was playing without their starting running back, receiver, 2 O-lineman (3 after the 1st quarter) , 3 d lineman, 1 backer, Fs, and Corner. So out of 22 starters 11 spots had 2nd string or 3rd string guys playing. The problem that shut down the offense was that once the starting center/de went out with an injury the snaps were all over the place. The play calling was there for the most part but when the qb can't make the read on zone read because of the back ups snaps its tough. The read on zone was there anytime they wanted but the timing was so off the qb was forced to hand it off. Burton was uncharacteristically missing almost all of the reads. There were receivers open (wide) on almost all of the plays but he wasnt going through his progressions. It might have been because he was having to focus his attention so much on the snaps that it got him out of rhythm. Defense was ok the first half but didnt show up in the 2nd. Tough one.
There is a big misconception about Leuzingers program, how much speed and talent they have. Leuzinger has had a few D-1 players get scholarships as of late and all of a sudden Leuzinger has speed and incredible talent every year. Leuzinger has looked like it has had alot of speed due to the league it plays in. They usually have 1 or 2 burners but the rest have fairly average speed. They are good athletes but dont necessarily have great straight line speed. ie: 2 or 3 times this year having what should be TD's by receivers not happen because of getting caught from behind. Against teams with average speed it doesnt happen but whyen there is someone with legitmate speed it is a glaring reality. (Someone made a good point last week about the track times. Except for Mark Rodgers and Johnny Davis (sub 10.8 in 100m) they have only had 1 or 2 other guys that have even run under an 11.4. The reason that people think this years team was fast is because the players have looked fast because of the way the coaches have gottn them the ball vs. match ups and in open spaces.
That is a very true statement SB Track and Football Coach. Let me throw one more misconception about Leuzinger out there. There are not 3,600 student at Leuzinger. There were about 3300 students at Leuzinger before Lawndale opened. There are currently 2,500 or so enrolled at Leuzinger. Who ever the blogger is with the great math skills needs to look into facts and not off past numbers and/or rumor. Keep in mind that the 50% percentile currently at Leuzinger is about a 1.6. So considering that 60-65% of the student population is under the required 2.0 GPA that leaves a student population base of about 1000 student to draw from for sports. With about 58% of that being female student that leaves roughly 460 male students to pull from for male athletics (football). 1/4 of that are freshman who do not play Varsity sports. That leaves 345 male students 10th-12th that are available for athletics. We all know 90% of sophmores dont typically play Varsity sports leaving 242.5 students to play. Out of that many male students that are still eligible to play how many of them actually try out to play. Then you have to take into consideration of how many of the student athletes will follow along with team rules and players conduct (ie: missed practices, behavior , etc......) I think you get my drift. It is ignorant for people to throw out 10 year old attendance numbers and think that is any indication of the number of student athletes there are to pull from the general student population.
Listen to all you guys talking on here and saying that you guys predicted this and predicted that.......on and on........yada.....yada......yada..........but I am the only poster who consistently picks all of the winners and losers and the league finishing order week in and week out. I picked the league standings before the games were played this year. You guys are all "Johnny come lately's"............ and if you guys think that you are good at picking, then post your picks up here tonight or by tomorrow and stick with them just like I do.
Now in terms of one good comment, "SB Football and Track Coach" made and excellent comment which was Leuzinger only has average speed as he states that no player on Luezinger is sub 11.0 in the 100 meter. This guy knows what he is talking about. I will never forget when people were talking on this board last year about how fast Carl Winston at Serra when the fact is that he is slow for a running back as he was clocked in at the combines at 4.8 yet rivals listed him at a 4.4..........this is all a big joke. There is no track speed on Luezinger at all and Costa has better speed man for man than any other team in the South Bay including Carson and Narbonne and Banning.
All bow down to Nostrildamas..........lol.
I have been telling anyone who would listen about Costa's speed this year...
I did not know Leuzinger had so many injuries, and in a post on another article I picked them to beat West 21 - 17...I will amend that and stick to the following predictions:
West 21 Leuzinger 7
Mira Costa 42 Redondo 14
Palos Verdes 35 Peninsula 10
Carson 28 San Pedro 20
Serra 28 Cathedral 24
There is no track speed on Luezinger at all and Costa has better speed man for man than any other team in the South Bay including Carson and Narbonne and Banning.
Okay, Nostrildamus, I can agree with you putting this post!!
One question, didn't you predict Banning to win last week or the week before on these blogs, but they lost? I have to check out the upcoming games in the area and I'll take you up on your challenge tomorrow. Sounds like fun and we'll see how we do comparison wise ... :-)
Leuzinger's injured RB has track speed and so does Denzell Idris and Roderick Polian, so does CB #24. Who knows if these guys even run track. Their former RB, Jaycen Taylor, now at Purdue, didn't even run track his senior year. Not all great football players even run track. Inglewood is another example of a team with great speed, not all of their kids over the years have run track either. I have seen almost all of the teams in the South Bay play this year, while Mira Costa does have very good speed, to say that they have more than Narbonne and Carson is a stretch. Costa has a VERY talented team and a great coaching staff.
Carson 35 San Pedro 10
Palos Verdes 42 Peninsula 0
Costa 38 Redondo 20
Serra 35 Cathedral 24
West 24 Leuzinger 14 (due to injuries)
Narbonne 42 Banning 7
Centennial 35 Lawndale 28
North 35 Torrance 17
El Segundo 42 South 14
Sounds like a fun challenge of you make the pick Nostradilmus and David!
My Predictions:
West 27 Leuzinger 20
Mira Costa 38 Redondo 16
Palos Verdes 41 Peninsula 9
Carson 35 San Pedro 21
Serra 35 Cathedral 18
Narbonne 28 Banning 12
Centennial 24 Lawndale 21
North 38 Torrance 14
El Segundo 38 South 21
MustangFan - Lets have fun and I am glad you took the challenge. Now how do you want to do it, just pick win and losses or pick scores and who gets closest?
Personally, I prefer just wins and losses! It's too difficult to do the point spread. It will be more interesting doing playoffs ...
Let us do only wins and loses then. Let the games begin!
Here are My Picks for Week 10:
1) Mira Costa over Redondo
2) West over Leuzinger
3) Palos Verdes over Peninsula
4) Cathedral over Serra (upset of the week)
5) Narbonne over Banning
6) Carson over San Pedro
7) El Segundo over South
8) Centennial over Lawndale
9) North over Torrance
Solomon, you don't need to post the scores as that is a great gesture and "ballsy" but let us stick to just the win/lose unless anyone wants to rethink this and add scores? If so let the board know and then we can add scores and whoever gets the closest overall is the king of the board for the week. I would further suggest we pick two college teams for a tie breaker such as the USC/UCLA game and another college game. Those we can pick the score for if you like as well.
Also guys, we need to add all teams/games in the Bay, Pioneer, Marine and Ocean leagues. Please don't leave any out and the Ocean League is always a tough pick because anything can happen in that league so its good to add the Ocean League. Once I get the updated injury report, mine will go up. Then don't forget we have to pick the CIF playoff games as well the week after.
Any more suggestions before we make this official would be appreciated. Majority rules on the suggestions. Picks must be in by Friday at 10:00AM for the cutoff time.
serra is goin to blow out cathedral. serra has WAY TO MUCH speed on offense and defense. Paul richardson, Robert Woods, Shaquille richards and George Farmer are all ridiculously fast. on defense they have three good linebackers, Brian true, Josh finau and Woodson Greer. with safeties robert Woods and Marquise Lee. cathedral will not be able to do any damage on this stacked team..
