Point guard Justin Cobbs, a former Bishop Montgomery High standout, has decided to transfer to California (Berkeley) after playing his freshman year for Minnesota.

Cobbs, the 2009 Daily Breeze Boys Basketball Player of the Year, leaves the Golden Gophers after playing in 34 of the team's 35 games, averaging 2.1 points, 1.3 assists and 10.7 minutes per game as a backup.

Cal coach Mike Montgomery said he's excited to have Cobbs join his team.

"He had a fantastic high school career. He won a state championship. He has a year of experience in an excellent program in the Big Ten," Montgomery said. "He should really solidify our guard position for years to come. ... He has all the things you look for in a guard."

I agree. I went to Bishop, played football, soccer, and track, and I could not care less either.

Go Bears!

So there is a Justin Cobbs Fan Club??? A fan club for a guy that averages 2.1 points a game. Must be a pretty small club

Hey Kenny Vances, that's 2.1 points a game more than you...so I guess that means you have no fan club!!

Im a City Football coach that wrote last year that Moore from Narbonne would never play at USC!!The kid is a 1AA Player at best!To Soft! All city football players in The South bay needs the additional time to develop. Moore should have sign with UNLV and would have played by his junior or Senior year. All Narbonne kids are very overrated! You will see the undersized safety that signed with UW will be leaving after 1 year also... mark my word and follow this post on this kid.

Dave Thorpe

Dave Thorpe was a self-proclaimed, slightly above average baseball player back in the day at Torrance's West High, who went on and had an unspectacular, injury-riddled stint as a third baseman at El Camino College. Trading bat for pen, Thorpe wrote sports for the Long Beach Union newspaper at Long Beach State University, then worked as the sports editor for the Palos Verdes Peninsula News for seven years before climbing down the Hill to the Daily Breeze, where he has been a sports writer covering local sports since 2007.
