Spurs' hope: She is gone?
Less dramatic -- indoors, there are no brake lights -- but was the Lakers' game 1 victory over San Antonio a Kirk Gibson moment?
I've argued over the years with a sportswriter who claims Gibson's home run in 1988 isn't one of the great homers of all time because it didn't win the World Series, it only won the opening game. My point is that actually it did win the World Series. Lifted the Dodgers, planted doubt in the A's, changed everything.
The Lakers' comeback Wednesday at Staples Center, an 89-85 victory after they trailed by 20 points, could turn out to swing emotions the same way. The Spurs must have thought they were going to score a major theft and take the home-court advantage in the best-of-seven conference-championship series. They must be discouraged after seeing the Lakers turn it around.
Of course, now the Lakers are vulnerable to similar emotions if the Spurs win Friday night.
If a game 1 can be pivotal, why not a game 2?
