The value of winning game 1

The Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers have played game 1 on the road in previous 16 playoff series and World Series. They won three of the 16 road openers. They won all three of those series.

The three:

- 1963 World Series: Sandy Koufax beat Whitey Ford 5-2 at Yankee Stadium, Dodgers swept series.
- 1974 playoffs: Don Sutton' complete game beat Pittsburgh 3-0, Dodgers won series 3-1.
- 1978 playoffs: Two Steve Garvey home runs helped beat Philadelphia 9-5, Dodgers won series 3-1.
