The end of summer – are you kidding? Labor
Day at Lake Tahoe South Shore (http://www.TahoeSouth.com)
is the kickoff to Indian Summer season with fireworks, two more months of
warm weather and a multitude of events and entertainment.
A special pyrotechnics display highlights the weekend.
The fireworks are visible throughout town with numerous vantage points
including the Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie II paddle wheelers, Edgewood Tahoe
Golf Course, Regan, El Dorado and Nevada
beaches.
A simultaneous broadcast to music will be featured on local
stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490. Launched from three offshore
barges, the display will ignite the alpine sky Sunday, Sept. 5 at
approximately 8:30 p.m.
With the average high temperature for September in the
70s and plenty of sunshine, Indian Summer in South Lake Tahoe boasts all of
summer’s glory, with lighter crowds and value-added packages with
area attractions.
Visitors as well as locals have several opportunities to
explore the outdoors by biking, running, kayaking or swimming around the
lake all while observing the Aspens transform into magnificent orange, red
and gold.
The 8th annual Tour de Tahoe Bike Big
Blue will have participants circumnavigate the Lake, Sunday, Sept. 12,
celebrating the end of summer on the roadways with spectacular scenery.
For ladies only, work all you got. The Aflac Iron
Girl Triathlon, Sunday, Sept.19, includes a 400 meter swim, a 24
kilometer bike to Cave Rock with return to the casino corridor and a 5
kilometer run circumnavigates upper and lower Loop Road, near Stateline.
Run, walk, swim, paddle, peddle or golf during one of
the many Lake Tahoe Marathon
events, Sept. 22-26. All of the runs are point-to-point and scenic from
start to finish. Both the half and full marathons are along the west shore
of Lake Tahoe and feature the challenging hills near Emerald Bay.
The 10K,
which begins at Inspiration Point above Emerald Bay, is 99% downhill and
covers the most spectacular portion of the route. Complementing the
traditional run is an Extreme Golf competition and a kayak-bike-marathon triathlon.
The inaugural Lake Tahoe Restaurant Week, Sept. 5-12, offers pre-fixe
menus for $20, $30 and $40 at 29 restaurants around the Lake. Participating
South Shore restaurants include: 19 Kitchen Bar, Aprs Wine Company, Beacon
Bar & Grill, Chart House, Ciera Steak + Chop House, Edgewood
Restaurant, Fresh Ketch Restaurant, Friday’s Station, Gi Fu Loh,

Camp Richardson Resort hosts several affordable, educational and
entertaining annual events and festivals in conjunction with the Tahoe
Tallac Association. The resort kicks-off the fall season, October 3-4, with
the Kokanee Salmon Festival, where visitors can view the colorful
Kokanee swimming up Taylor Creek near the resort.
The Kokanee Salmon Run
includes a Kids Fun Run, 5k, 10k and half marathon along the trails near
Fallen Leaf Lake where Aspens are changing color reflected in glass-like
water. A post-run tradition includes devouring a bratwurst and beer at the
annual Oktoberfest with authentic food,
live music, a Kid’s Carnival, and the famous Beer and Wine Garden.
