Portland offers bike and brew tour

Traveloregon.com offers this interesting trip suggestion:

“When it comes to bikes and beer, Portland is the land of plenty. More than 50 breweries within city limits make beers of every style, from classic Northwest IPAs to barrel aged barley wines and oyster stouts. The bike scene is equally vibrant. Bike lanes are crowded with commuters no matter the season, and cyclo-cross races draw thousands of bikers and spectators each fall.

“Beer and bike cultures naturally overlap, and not just because beer tastes great after a long ride. Exploring the city’s beer scene through pedal power is an unforgettable experience. Not only can you indulge in two of Portland’s greatest passions, you’ll enjoy hassle-free parking and the smell of fresh beer brewing as you ride through the city.

“This bike-and-beer tour focuses on east-side beer destinations. However, it’s not an invitation to get drunk and ride a bike; you don’t have to quaff a pint at every spot. Mix it up by sharing tasting trays with friends and ordering food instead of beer at some locations. Please drink and ride responsibly.”

New Skyline Trail opens in Big Bear

Big Bear’s Skyline Trail is a new multi-use single track that currently offers 8 miles one way giving guests a new perspective of the wonderful alpine scenery. A grand opening for the new trail was held on Saturday.

“From my understanding this is the first new trail introduced to Big Bear in over two decades,” said Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation Chair Phil Hamilton.

The new multi-use trail, designed for mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding, is located on the backside of Snow Summit, and begins where the US Forest service roads 2N10 and 2N06 meet. The trail parallels the 2N10, and snakes from east to west. It currently finishes at Forest Dream single track trail west of 2N10.

The Skyline Trail is designed to become the backbone of a new South Shore trails system with connections to existing trails and future trails. The Big Bear Valley Trails Foundation and US Forest Service will resume construction of the trail in the next year. When the trail is completed it will meander through the forest for a 15 mile loop that starts and ends at the backside of Snow Summit.

The trail can either be accessed by driving a car or riding a bike to U.S. Forest Service Road 2N10. Take Moonridge Road to Clubview Drive. Stay on Clubview Drive until it ends and becomes 2N10. Take 2N10 to the intersection of 2N10 and 2N06. Another option is to take Snow Summit Scenic Sky Chair to the top of Snow Summit, and then either take a short walk or bike ride to the Skyline Trail trailhead. To learn more about the new Skyline trail visitwww.trailsfoundation.org.
