Tech-Out conducted a highly unscientific poll of its team of contributors to name 2011's best game, and "Batman: Arkham City" took the top prize.

Current and former staffers for The Sun and Inland Valley Daily Bulletin newspapers comprised the majority of our panel. We don't get to cover games full time (I spend most of my days as a business reporter), but we like games and like to share our opinions on which titles are worth playing . As for Arkham City, here's what contributor Reggie Carolipio, who also reviewed the title, had to say:

Arkham Asylum resurrected the Dark Knight's career in gaming in much the same way that Christopher Nolan's Batman resurrected his onscreen legend, and Arkham City delivered even more high-flying crimebusting and street-level beat downs than its predecessor. Squeeze in a who's who of bad guys ranging from the Penguin to Two-Face, a host of storied side missions, the Riddler, and Arkham City isn't so much of a sequel as it is a new chapter in the Caped Crusader's career.

We liked other games, too. The runners up are after the jump.
If you have Internet access, you have probably heard of Google+, which is basically the search engine giant's answer to Facebook.

If you don't have Internet access, how are you reading this?

Like Facebook, Google + lets users and their friends share every detail about their personal life. The difference, and Mountain View-based Google's selling point, is that you can put your friends, acquaintances and family members into different, customizable "circles," so different information is shared with different users.

At first glance, it seems like a decent way to manage information feed and the dreaded "mom is on Facebook" dilemma. Also, users' contacts won't know which circle they are in, which would avoid the complications of having to publicly describe peers as "friends" or "acquaintances."

If circle scheme works, users may indeed be able to acknowledge that they do indeed have a mother while still having the freedom to post pictures involving massive amounts of tequila and poor judgment.

I was on furlough/vacation when the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association.

The 7-2 ruling affirmed video games enjoy the same First Amendment protections as cinema, literature and theater while overturning a California law that banned the sale of violent video games to minors.

Inland Valley Daily Bulletin colleague Mediha Fejzagic DiMartino wrote the following article on the court's ruling. Her piece first published on www.dailybulletin.com on June 27. Read it after the jump.

Review: Dragon Age 2

| | Comments (0)

DA2.jpgVarric the dwarf knows what makes a good story. A strong character and a trusty sidekick go a long way, but impossible odds and an epic scale create staying power.

"Dragon Age 2," with Varric as its only slightly trustworthy narrator, tracks the rise of the Champion of Kirkwall from refugee to leading citizen. As the champion, Hawke to your friends, Dragon Age 2 is the story of your rise to power. Whether man or woman, peacemaker or warmonger, your Hawke will deal with a good deal of quandaries, no one makes it to the top unscathed.

| | Comments (0)

Verizon's announcement during CES 2011 was all about 4G LTE. LTE, short for Long Term Evolution, was rolled out on December 5, 2010 in 38 markets and by the end of 2011 they hope to be in 175 markets. After today's announcement they will roll out with ten new 4G LTE devises, 4 cell phone, 2 mobile hotspots, 2 LTE enabled laptops and 2 tablets.

Verizon plans to release these products starting in Q1 of this year.

Unfortunatly no iPhone announcement yet, maybe we'll hear more on this room come Macworld 2011 later this month.
