Funcom is making this the "Week of the Illuminati" as they continue gearing up for the release of their MMO, "The Secret World", expected in April. There's also a Q&A with the developers coming up on Facebook on January 15th, though Funcom has started taking questions so be sure to check it out.

We've touched on Secret World before in the past, but in case you've missed some of our coverage, it's not your usual MMORPG.

Taking place in a version of our modern world where conspiracies are all too real and secret rituals steeped in the arcane are as tangible, the Secret World is set to challenge the usual trappings of its genre. It boasts "no levels" in developing your character allowing you to push them in whatever direction you want with a greater emphasis on storytelling not often seen in other titles.

But if the Illuminati's "civil" exterior is too pedestrian for you, there are two other factions to throw the dice with. You call roll with either the crusading Templars, or sow chaos with those of the Dragon.

Each faction also has their own starting area based on real-world locales such as New York where the corporate-minded Illuminati call home. Or take the initiation test to help make your decision.

A batch of nifty screenshots have also been released showing off the Illuminati's digs and a few of the people that secretly hang with them. Check these out right after the jump or visit the main site for a deeper sampling of its secrets.

Gotham City Imposters, a downloadable FPS in which players play as characters pretending to be characters from the Batman universe, has been delayed from a January release to a February release.

The game is set to be available for PC download, PlayStation Network and XBox Live.

Warner Bros. Games announced the postponement today. The game looks nothing like the publishers popular "Arkham" series of Batman games. Instead, it looks a bit like the vigilantes who Christian Bale's Batman mocked in "The Dark Knight" for fighting crime while wearing hockey pads got a bunch of guns and started shooting at people dressed like the Joker, who also have a bunch of guns.

In other words, the game's aesthetic looks more like a Team Fortress-style wackiness instead of Call of Duty-style this-is-so-hardcore-ness.

As far as whether the game turns out to be any good, I guess we'll find out in February.
Tech-Out conducted a highly unscientific poll of its team of contributors to name 2011's best game, and "Batman: Arkham City" took the top prize.

Current and former staffers for The Sun and Inland Valley Daily Bulletin newspapers comprised the majority of our panel. We don't get to cover games full time (I spend most of my days as a business reporter), but we like games and like to share our opinions on which titles are worth playing . As for Arkham City, here's what contributor Reggie Carolipio, who also reviewed the title, had to say:

Arkham Asylum resurrected the Dark Knight's career in gaming in much the same way that Christopher Nolan's Batman resurrected his onscreen legend, and Arkham City delivered even more high-flying crimebusting and street-level beat downs than its predecessor. Squeeze in a who's who of bad guys ranging from the Penguin to Two-Face, a host of storied side missions, the Riddler, and Arkham City isn't so much of a sequel as it is a new chapter in the Caped Crusader's career.

We liked other games, too. The runners up are after the jump.

I don't think there's any shooter out right now that can surpass the detail and depth of gameplay delivered by DICE's new Battlefield 3.

While the solo-mode suffers from a rather boring and uninvolving plot, the graphics and play are truly stunning and keep you coming back for more.

But it's the multi-player mode that serves the real meat and potatoes of this game and it's well worth the price of admission.

Electronic Arts and Bioware revealed Saturday that Command & Conquer Generals 2 will be released for the PC in 2013.

Strategy game fans may remember the first Generals game, which was released in 2003. The game let players control the military forces of the United States and China as well as the "Global Liberation Army." Given that the GLA was obviously an analog for al Qaida, I remember being kind of surprised that there was not more controversy surrounding that release.

Here's a bit from from EA's announcement of the new game:

In Command & Conquer Generals 2, world leaders are mere seconds away from signing a peace treaty and bringing an end to a global war when a devastating terrorist attack rips through the conference, killing everyone in attendance, leaving only the world's military superpowers in control. It's up to you to assume their roles, take command of their forces and conquer global terrorism once and for all. Players will take control of three unique factions in a thrilling single-player campaign, and with friends online in cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.

And here's the short trailer:

witn_7.jpgWar in the North takes players back to Middle Earth to fight evil while Frodo and company head to Mordor to destroy the One Ring. Taking place in the North, would-be adventurers will play their part in stemming the tide of darkness waiting to erupt from the cold, wintry holds there.
swtor_title.jpgThe Inquisitor looked at me expectantly, hoping to see what nugget of information I would pry loose from the victim strapped to the table. The man coolly went about his business while my prey writhed in fear of what was to come. But after a few words of calm and a promise of help, his will melted before this unexpected kindness. And I kept my word, seeing that he would leave Korriban's tombs and its Academy politic far behind him.

I was Sith. Sith, with a heart of compassion for those that deserved it...and an unrelenting storm to those that did not.
