SB County to seek proposals from companies for energy projects

San Bernardino County landfills could become home to multiple renewable energy projects under a proposal approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.  Under the plan, the county will seek proposals from companies interested in constructing wind or solar renewable energy facilities on county-owned landfill property, according to a news release.  About 9,200 acres of county property are utilized for solid waste purposes.  The county commissioned a study in 2008 that noted a "significant" potential for renewable energy projects on landfill property, according to the release. The study concluded that solid waste property in Kramer Junction, Barstow, Victorville and at Parker Dam had the highest potential for solar projects. The study recommended the West Valley Material Recovery Facility (MRF), the Agua Mansa MRF, and the Heaps Peak Transfer Station as possible locations for small wind-energy projects.
