Real estate firm Colliers International announced the sale of a 78,021 industrial building to Shield Packaging,  an aerosol can manufacturer with operations in Chino and Dudley, Mass.

The building is at 5740 Schaefer Ave. in Chino and sold in a deal worth $3.9 million, Colliers reported.

Brad Yates and Richard Scwartz of Colliers International represented Shield Packaging in the deal. Larry Null and Douglas Earnhart of Lee & Associates represented the seller, MRC Properties LLC.

Thirty Calimesa-area business are expected to attend Reliance Referrals Network's gathering to be held Saturday in Calimesa.

The network meets weekly to discuss community events and refer each others' business. Saturday's agenda also includes tri-tip barbecue and a musical performance by Rod Tankerson.

The event is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Dessein, Inc., 1091 7th Street, Calimesa.

Finesse Staffing, a Rancho Cucamonga-based job placement firm, is scheduled to host a workshop on labor law and job evaluations Thursday morning.

Increased grocery sales led to an $8.8 million profit for Stater Bros. Holdings Inc. in the quarter ending March 27, the grocery chain said late Tuesday.
The second fiscal quarter profit was a 46.7 percent rise from the same quarter last year. Store sales grew 3.15 percent to $913.4 million, reversing the decline in sales seen in the first quarter.
High unemployment and rising food prices led Chief Financial Officer Phillip J. Smith to predict earlier this year that the San Bernardino-based chain would see a decline in sales in fiscal year 2011.

Harvey Mudd College president Maria Klawe now serves on semiconductor firm Broadcom's board of directors.

Klawe has served as Harvey Mudd's chief executive since 2006. She holds a doctorate in mathematics from University of Alberta and has previously served as Dean of Engineering at Princeton University, where she also held a professorhisp in computer science.

Harvey Mudd College is one of the Claremont Colleges.

Broadcom is headquartered in Irvine. The firm's chief technical officer and co-founder, Henry Samueli, was also elected to the firm's board.

Phoenix Realty Group on Tuesday announced the $21.5 million purchases of three apartment complexes in San Bernardino and Highland.

Two of the complexes, the 160-unit Ascot Park and 80-unit Summit Place, are in San Bernardino. The 192-unit Park Heights complex is in Highland.

All three properties had been repossessed by a lender in 2009, Phoneix reported. The new owners retained Coastline Real Estate Advisors, a Manhattan Beach property management and real estate firm.

Phoenix Realty Group has offices in Los Angeles and New York.

The Economic Development Agency of San Bernardino accepted an award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for its neighborhood stabilization project at Eastpoint Village in San Bernardino.

The project, which began in 2009, took a federal grant to stabilize communities after foreclosures to redevelop Eastpointe Village, a formerly blighted neighborhood of multi-family units at 19th Avenue and Sunrise Lane.

HUD's Spirit Awards are given to projects that capture the spirit of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The city agency used $2.7 million in NSP funds and $3 million in local housing funds to complete the project.

"In a relatively short period of time, tremendous progress has been made to reshape this community," said Emil Marzullo, Economic Development Agency interim executive director.  "It is an honor to be recognized for the exemplary labor and accomplishments shown by our team. Reducing blight and stabilizing our neighborhoods is important to providing residents quality of life."

A free 90-hour Nanotechnology Technician's training course is scheduled to begin its next round this month.

The San Bernardino Community College District, which offers the class through a Department of Labor grant, has scheduled the course from May 23 to July 14.

What is nanotechnology training? Coursework will include lessons on micro/nano fabrication, scanning probe microscopy and optoelectronic devices. Students must meet some minimum academic- or work experience-related requirements to attend the classes.

Classes will be held primarily at the Center for the Advancement of Nanotechnology, or NanoCenter, at 114 S. Del Rosa Drive and at UC Riverside.

BNI, a global networking organization focused on business referrals among members, is planning a Visitor's Day for its Business Builders Chapter on May 10 in Rancho Cucamonga.

The organization generated more than 6.2 million referrals for its members in 2010, leading to about $2.6 billion of business, according to the group.

California Scooter Company, based in La Verne, announced the design of a police version to its popular small motorcycle. Take a look at the cop scooter here. The CSC-150P is designed to help law enforcement navigate through highly congested urban settings, the company said.

The black-and-white small motorcycle, which can be customized to department colors, includes a calibrated speedometer, windshield, storage rack, saddlebags, siren, engine guards and police lighting. It has lower maintenance costs than a standard police motorcycle and, in addition to electric starting, retains a traditional kick starter.
