ODW Logistics has obtained operating authority in California for its trucking subsidiary. the Dist-Trans Co., the company announced.

The development means that Dist-Trans drivers will be able to haul freight for West Coast customers, the company announced.

ODW Logistics has facilities in San Bernardino and Chino. The firm's corporate headquarters is in Columbus, Ohio.

Californians continued to consume less fuel in October, as gasoline consumption dropped 1.8 percent when compared to the same month in October 2010.

The California Board of Equalization reported that drivers consumed 1.23 billion gallons of gasoline in October.

Consumption fell as pump prices increased. One gallon of regular gasoline cost an average of $3.89 in October. That price signifies a 74 cent year-over-year increase.

Diesel consumption, however, rose in October. Diesel users purchased 226 million gallons of fuel in October. The amount signifies a year-over-year consumption increase of 4.8 percent.
A gallon of diesel fuel cost an average of $4.06 per gallon in October. That amount is 85 cents higher than the average price one year prior.

The Board of Equalization tracks consumption by analyzing gasoline tax receipts.

The Inland Empire chapter of National Association of Women in Construction has a new location for its February meeting.

The meeting's featured speaker Christopher M. Myers of C.W. Driver Builders, is scheduled to discuss the U.S. Small Business Administration's mentorship program. The mentorship program allows minority-owned small businesses and other firms meeting certain criteria to partner with larger companies when bidding for federal contracts.

The meeting is now scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Hilton Garden Inn, 11481 Mission Vista Drive, Rancho Cucamonga.

Community Bank, a business bank with 15 branches in San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange counties, reported a $25.2 million profit for the year ending Dec. 31.

The bank's profit compares with a $20.7 million profit earned in 2010.

The bank also reported a decrease in its reserve for loan losses. At the end of last year, the bank reported a $37.5 million, or 2.12 percent, of its total loans as being reserved for potential losses. That number is down from $39.7 million, or 2.25 percent of outstanding loans, at the end of 2010.

Community Bank has $2.6 billion in reported assets. The bank's branches include locations in Ontario, Fontana and Redlands. Community Bank's main office is in Pasadena.

U.S. debtors delinquency rates improved significantly, credit bureau Equifax reported. Among the most significant statistics, 60-day deliquescence on credit card bills fell by 29 percent.

The reduction in late payments has in turn led to increased credit, according to Equifax. Credit card originations for consumers with subprime credit scores (below 660 points) increased 48 percent from January through October.

Among other types of debt, 60-day delinquencies among auto loans financed by dealers decreased by 19 percent. Auto loans financed by banks fell 23 percent in 2011.

Mortgage payments delinquent by 30 days declined by 13 percent last year, according to Equifax.

Attorney General Kamala Harris announced a settlement with the manufacturer of Brazilian Blowout hair products that will require disclosures to consumers and stylists that the hair smoothing products emit formaldehyde gas.

The manufacturer, GIB, LLC must stop describing its products as formaldehyde free and safe. The firm, which does business under the name Brazilian Blowout, must also pay $600,000 in fees, penalties and costs.

Harris' office also reported the settlement is the first law enforcement action made under the 2005 California Safe Cosmetics Act. The settlement came as the result of a lawsuit her office filed in November 2010.

Myers is a project manager for C.W. Driver Builders, which is based in Ontario.

The U.S. Small Business Association's Mentor-Protégé Program is scheduled as the meeting's featured topic. The program is designed to help small companies bid for federal contracts by allowing those companies to partner with larger firms.

The Mentor-Protégé Program is open to minority business owners and others who meet the government's criteria for being a "socially and economically disadvantaged individual".

Inland Center, along with Touch of Home-Support 4R Military Inc., is collecting supplies and Valentine's Day cards for servicemen and women overseas.

After they are collected, Valentines and much-needed supplies will be packaged and shipped by Touch of Home to soldiers overseas for Valentine's Day.

Goodies will be collected through Feb. 5 at the mall, 500 Inland Center Drive.
"We're Sweet on Soldiers" has helped thousands of soldiers know that we have not forgotten them and appreciate everything they do.

University of Redlands announced a new engineering program that will enable students to earn a bachelor's degree at Redlands while also obtaining a bachelor's of science degree in engineering from Columbia University.

The program will require students to spend the first three years of undergraduate study at University of Redlands. Students would be able to apply to Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Science during their junior year.

Students who are accepted at Columbia would then spend two additional years studying engineering at that school's campus in New York City.

Altura Credit Union, which is based in Riverside, reported an $8.43 million profit for 2011.

The amount signifies an improvement over the credit union's $5.8 million loss in 2010.

"After the economic turmoil of the past few years, 2011 was our best year since 2006," Altura Credit Union CEO Mark Hawkins said in a statement. "Although we continued to deal with a difficult economy, 2011 was the year in which we finally saw the marketplace begin to firm up. Unemployment is settling down and foreclosures and delinquencies have eased substantially."

Altura Credit Union ended 2011 with a 7.84 percent net worth ratio, well above the 5.81 percent ratio at the end of 2010. The National Credit Union Administration considers an institution with a ratio of at least 7 percent to be well capitalized.


San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitt named Team 3 Fight Academy as the "Small Business of the Year" for his district.

Army veteran and Sergio Marchado is a part-owner of the martial arts school, which offers lessons in mixed-martial arts, Brazilian jiu jitsu, krav maga and other fighting and self-defense disciplines.

Machado served three tours of duty in the Iraq War and received a Bronze Star, according to Ovitt's office. Machado also started a clothing company called Recon Fight Gear and donates 10 percent of clothing sales to support military personnel overseas and at home.

Ovitt represents San Bernardino County's Fourth District, which includes the Ontario and Chino areas. CO-OP Financial Services, based in Rancho Cucamonga, processed more than 200 million electronic payments in December, the company reported.

It was the first time the company ever processed more than 200 million transactions in a single month.

CO-OP Financial services provides payment processing and other services to credit unions. The company processed some 2.2 billion payments in all of 2011.

The company first crested the 1 billion mark in 2004.

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. plan to about 60 Southern California branches this year.

The anticipated openings are part of the banking firm's plan to open nearly 100 branches up and down California and about 175 branches nationwide.

A bank spokesman said he could not identify where the new Chase bank branches will open, but did say most of the Southern California branches will be in the Los Angeles and Inland Empire areas.

Chase has 930 branches in California.  J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. acquired Washington Mutual in 2008.
Index Fresh, a Bloomington-based avocado distribution company, has hired T.J. Salinas as the company's new Southern California field representative.

Salinas is a graduate of Cal State San Marcos and has previously worked in the fertilizer industry.

Index Fresh is a grower-owned company that packs, markets and ships avocados grown domestically and abroad.

Electricians, masons, operating engineers, nurses, members of other trades as well as the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department are scheduled to participate in the 10th annual Union Apprenticeship and Training Forum.

The event is will be open to students and others interested viewing job demonstrations and learning more about possible career opportunities in various trades. The Central Labor Council AFL/CIO of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties will sponsor the event in coordination with the San Bernardino Superintendent of Schools.

Wells Fargo & Co. plans to host free workshops for homeowners who are facing difficulty making their house payments.

The Inland Empire workshops are scheduled to take place Feb. 14 and 15 at Ontario Convention Center. The sessions are open to customers with home loans from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Wells Fargo Financial, Wells Fargo Home Equity and Wachovia Mortgage.

The La Verne Chamber of Commerce is holding a raffle for two Top Eliminator Club Tickets for the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals.

The drag racing event is set to take place from Feb. 9-12 at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona.

The tickets, for Feb. 12 admission, include breakfast, lunch and a reserved grandstand seat.

A 7-Eleven-anchored shopping center in San Bernardino that features a recharging station that can simultaneously power multiple electric vehicles has sold to an undisclosed buyer, according to brokerage Colliers International.

The sale signifies the first time a shopping center with an electric charging station designed to recharge multiple vehicles in a gas station-like manner has sold in the United States, according to Colliers International.

The shopping center sold for for a little more than $2 million. Los Angeles-based developer ICO Real Estate Group developed the shopping center, which is near the crossing of 40th Street and Sierra Avenue in northern San Bernardino.

Frank Abagnale, the former con artist whose life was depicted in the Steven Spielberg film "Catch Me If You Can" is scheduled to provide advice on how to identify and prevent fraud.

Abagnale will discuss identity theft, computer fraud, embezzlement and related topics during a speech scheduled to take place Tuesday. U.S. Bank is hosting Abegnale's visit.

San Bernardino County officials announced the development of the ePlan application for people seeking building permits or other government approvals.

The application is being designed to allow customers to submit documents online.

The ePlan application is still under testing within the county's Land Use Services Department. The county plans to release the application later this month.

CVB Financial, parent company of Citizens Business Bank, will report its earnings for the fourth quarter of 2011 and the past year as a whole after markets close on Jan. 18.

The banking firm's management is scheduled to discuss their financial results in a conference call the following morning.

Beauty 21 Cosmetics is set to move from Rancho Cucamonga to Ontario after buying a 231,000-square-foot industrial property.

Beauty 21's brands include L.A. Girl USA cosmetics.

The building, at 2021 S. Archibald Ave., is part of Archibald Business Center. The property sold for $15 million, according to CT Realty Investors and Behringer Harvard, the property's previous owners.

Peter McWilliams and Mike McCrary of Jones Lang LaSalle represented CT Realty and Behringer Harvard. Personnel at the Ontario office of Lee & Associates represented Beauty 21 Cosmetics.

Skechers USA previously occupied Archibald Avenue building before moving to a 1.8 million-square-foot building in Moreno Valley.

Dollar General, a Tennessee based discounter, plans to hold a job fair Thursday and Friday in Ontario to hire some 300 employees as the company expands into Southern and Central California.

The job fair is scheduled to take place from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Best Western Plus Ontario Airport, 209 N. Vineyard Ave., Ontario. Dollar General is also scheduled to accept applications from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the same location.

Dollar General reported a $171 million profit for the quarter ending Oct. 28.
BrightSource Energy, Inc., the Oakland company developing a solar generating plant in the Mojave Desert, announced the appointment of Richard "Dick" Kelly as the firm's new chairman of the board.

Kelly is the former chairman and CEO of Xcel Energy, which is an electric utility operating in the Midwest, Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions.

BrightSource's new chairman also holds an MBA from Regis University, which is in Denver.

State Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, is scheduled to speak at the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce's legislative breakfast.

Dutton is scheduled to address political issues affecting business and his views on how redistricting may affect the Legislature. Dutton, facing term limits in the State Senate, is running for an Assembly seat against Mike Morrell, a Republican who represents the Rancho Cucamonga area in the state's lower house.
