The Banta Center for Business Ethics and Society plans to host lecturer Chris MacDonald for a discussion on the ethics of digital media.

MacDonald is a Duke University fellow and lecturer ar Saint Mary's University in Halifax. His scheduled talk is titled "Responsibilities in the Blogosphere."

The event is scheduled to begin with a buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Casa Loma Room at University of Redlands.

Admission will cost $10 for university students and employees or $15 for the public.

University of Redlands announced a new engineering program that will enable students to earn a bachelor's degree at Redlands while also obtaining a bachelor's of science degree in engineering from Columbia University.

The program will require students to spend the first three years of undergraduate study at University of Redlands. Students would be able to apply to Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Science during their junior year.

Students who are accepted at Columbia would then spend two additional years studying engineering at that school's campus in New York City.

The School of Business Administration at UC Riverside plans to begin its third global residency program in January when students are scheduled to travel to Mumbai, India.

In Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni are set to attend lectures and visit business and cultural sites.

Scheduled lecture topics include India's transitional economy, Mumbai's economy, and India's economic future.

UC Riverside has previously established one-week residency programs in England and China. School leaders plan to create future programs in Brazil and Russia.

The district office of state Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod, D-Montclair, plans to host a workshop on how to reclaim unclaimed property.

Lost or forgotten property that may be recoverable through the state's unclaimed property program include bank accounts, stocks and other securities, cashier's checks and money orders.

The workshop is scheduled to from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the senator's offices at 4959 Palo Verde St., Suite 110B, Montclair.

A free 90-hour Nanotechnology Technician's training course is scheduled to begin its next round this month.

The San Bernardino Community College District, which offers the class through a Department of Labor grant, has scheduled the course from May 23 to July 14.

What is nanotechnology training? Coursework will include lessons on micro/nano fabrication, scanning probe microscopy and optoelectronic devices. Students must meet some minimum academic- or work experience-related requirements to attend the classes.

Classes will be held primarily at the Center for the Advancement of Nanotechnology, or NanoCenter, at 114 S. Del Rosa Drive and at UC Riverside.

For the third year in a row, a Cal Poly Pomona team won the Western Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. The 20-hour competition took place over three days beginning March 25 at Cal Poly Pomona.

The team, made up of students from the Business Administration, Science and Engineering colleges, will go on to compete at the national competition next month.

Students worked to create a West Coast backup operations center while fending off attacks from hackers. This year's competition scenario included a series of terrorist attacks, both physical and virtual, that shut down U.S. stock trading for several weeks.

Five other schools competed in the cyber defense event, including Cal State San Bernardino, which placed second, and Arizona's University of Advancing Technology, which placed third.
