Community Bank reports $25.2 million profit

Community Bank, a business bank with 15 branches in San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange counties, reported a $25.2 million profit for the year ending Dec. 31.

The bank’s profit compares with a $20.7 million profit earned in 2010.

The bank also reported a decrease in its reserve for loan losses. At the end of last year, the bank reported a $37.5 million, or 2.12 percent, of its total loans as being reserved for potential losses. That number is down from $39.7 million, or 2.25 percent of outstanding loans, at the end of 2010.

Community Bank has $2.6 billion in reported assets. The bank’s branches include locations in Ontario, Fontana and Redlands. Community Bank’s main office is in Pasadena.

Ontario martial arts academy wins “Small Business of the Year” honor award

San Bernardino County Supervisor Gary Ovitt named Team 3 Fight Academy as the “Small Business of the Year” for his district.

Army veteran and Sergio Marchado is a part-owner of the martial arts school, which offers lessons in mixed-martial arts, Brazilian jiu jitsu, krav maga and other fighting and self-defense disciplines.

Machado served three tours of duty in the Iraq War and received a Bronze Star, according to Ovitt’s office. Machado also started a clothing company called Recon Fight Gear and donates 10 percent of clothing sales to support military personnel overseas and at home.

Wells Fargo to host mortgage workshops in Ontario

Wells Fargo & Co. plans to host free workshops for homeowners who are facing difficulty making their house payments.

The Inland Empire workshops are scheduled to take place Feb. 14 and 15 at Ontario Convention Center. The sessions are open to customers with home loans from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Wells Fargo Financial, Wells Fargo Home Equity and Wachovia Mortgage.

Customers will be able to walk in, but registrations are recommended.

“Catch Me If You Can” subject to speak in Ontario

Frank Abagnale, the former con artist whose life was depicted in the Steven Spielberg film “Catch Me If You Can” is scheduled to provide advice on how to identify and prevent fraud.

Abagnale will discuss identity theft, computer fraud, embezzlement and related topics during a speech scheduled to take place Tuesday. U.S. Bank is hosting Abegnale’s visit.

The seminar is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Doubletree by Hilton Ontario Airport, 222 N. Vineyard Ave., Ontario. There is no admission fee but registration is required.

Cosmetics company to set up HQ in Ontario

Beauty 21 Cosmetics is set to move from Rancho Cucamonga to Ontario after buying a 231,000-square-foot industrial property.

Beauty 21’s brands include L.A. Girl USA cosmetics.

The building, at 2021 S. Archibald Ave., is part of Archibald Business Center. The property sold for $15 million, according to CT Realty Investors and Behringer Harvard, the property’s previous owners.

Skechers USA previously occupied Archibald Avenue building before moving to a 1.8 million-square-foot building in Moreno Valley.

Dollar General to hold hiring event in Ontario

Dollar General, a Tennessee based discounter, plans to hold a job fair Thursday and Friday in Ontario to hire some 300 employees as the company expands into Southern and Central California.

The job fair is scheduled to take place from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Best Western Plus Ontario Airport, 209 N. Vineyard Ave., Ontario. Dollar General is also scheduled to accept applications from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the same location.

Dollar General reported a $171 million profit for the quarter ending Oct. 28.

Estrada Strategies hires High Desert business coach

Estrada Strategies, a business training firm headquartered in Ontario, has hired Judith Gargyi as the company’s new CEO coach for the High Desert.

Gargyi lives in Apple Valley and is a former executive with Boys & Girls Club of Victor Valley. She has also worked as CEO of her own company, Judith Gargyi & Associates and adult education company with services including English lessons.

In her role with Estrada Strategies, Gargyi will be reponsible for training and coaching executives at small- and mid-sized businesses.

Neiman Marcus outlet to open at Ontario Mills

A Last Call by Neiman Marcus outlet store is scheduled to open in May at Ontario Mills, the shopping center announced today.

The Last Call store is set to occupy a 21,000 square foot space at Ontario Mills, and shopping center management reports that its arrival will be a major aspect of the second phase of the mall’s redevelopment.

The pending arrival of Last Call by Neiman Marcus will require an innovation of Ontario Mills’ north-facing exterior, and mall managers also plan to renovate the existing Nordstrom Rack store.

Previous changes at Ontario Mills include the expansion of its Aeropostale, Burlington Coat Factory and Forever 21 stores, as well as upgraded restrooms and a new guest services center.

Family Dollar to open four Inland Empire stores

Family Dollar, a chain of discount stores, plans to open four Inland Empire stores this month.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based company has Nov. 17 scheduled as the opening date for stores in Ontario, Fontana, Rialto and Riverside.

Family Dollar plans to make the Ontario store its West Coast flagship and company executives are scheduled to appear at a grand opening event there on Nov. 17 and make a $5,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank.

The Ontario store is at 980 N. Mountain Plaza. The other stores are at 8933 Sierra Avenue, Fontana; 552 W. Foothill Blvd., Rialto and 5608 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside.

Distribution center needs 400 workers

Finesse Staffing announced that the compmany is taking applications for 400 skilled and general labor positions at Ingram Micro’s distribution center in Ontario.

Ingram Micro is technology distributor based in Santa Ana. The company needs cherry picker, reach and forklift drivers, machinists and general warehouse workers. Positions pay between $9 and $17 per hour.
