LA Residents Spend More on Transportation than Others

The typical household in the Los Angeles area spent almost $11,000 annually on transportation, with only a small fraction going to mass transit. Transportation costs amounted to almost one-fifth of total household expenses there, reports the New York Times.

For New Yorkers, annual transportation costs were $7,581, less than one-seventh of all spending. The typical Chicago household spent $8,875, one-sixth of its total expenditures, on transportation.
