In regard to recent comments made by Poly people... This is a blog. Blogs are an opportunity for the public at large to engage in conversation/debate/dialog on current issues affecting the community, instead of simply being "told" what is happening by reading the newspaper and not having the chance to respond. The Jerry Stone matter is both a private matter for his family AND a public matter. In other words, it's also NEWS, and since we are in the NEWS business, it's important for us to spark discussion. It's important to discuss these kinds of issues because without dialog solutions to these problems will be more difficult to find than if we do what you suggest and just leave it alone. And the reason I called out Poly for discussion is because Poly is the measuring stick of the league. Poly is at the top. Poly is the program every other program aspires to be. As far as covering the players on the field, starting next week we'll have stories on the teams, their games, their players and coverage of the other sports like we always do, almost every single day, every year, until school gets out in June.

On the one hand you're saying this issue needs discussion because it is a problem of society. Ok Fair enough. Then you go out and call out Poly fans in specific simply because they have the best football program in the league? Because they win more than any other program you call them out for their opinon on a matter related to guns, gangs and the streets? As if the fans of Jordan, Paramount, or Cabrillo don't experience these same problems? I don't understand where you are going with this.

Yes, I was calling out Poly fans simply because they have the best football program in the area and one of the best programs in the country. For example, if someone on the Angels is found to have taken steroids, and I, as a reporter, want to solicit reaction from other players, I go to the big-name players for their thoughts, not the third-string catcher. Pretty basic. As someone else had posted, all schools have problems. And fans from any other school are welcome to express themselves.

Pretty basic eh? You just compared grown men making millions of dollars and doing an activity that gives them a competitive edge in their sport to a high school kid that got caught up in something that falls well outside the range of high school football in terms of wins and losses. The only reason you called out Poly fans in specific is because they have a winning program. This has nothing to do with wins and losses though, so I don't understand why you would target Poly football fans in specific for their opinion.

poly will not win the moore league this year, poly grabs there players form all over and alot of there players dont pass there classes , there in low classes some not even on campus.

John wayne, you are sadly mistaken. educate yourself before you speak, please

Poly will win the Moore League this year. Lakewood is like the Cubs. All hype and no championships. And when did football players become smart? Donkeys most of them.. They are entertaining to watch. Nothing more nothing less. Calling out Poly cause they are ghetto. Lakewood is the absolute worst school in LB district. Kids behaviour is absolute worst. Lakewood busses is kids as well. Only real schools are Millikan who is no good and Wilson also no good. Who wants to go to those schools for football?

Who Cares is being very disrespectful. There are good players at Millikan and Wilson and yes they will do very well this year. I have family and friends at Millikan and Wilson and their 'can-do' attitude will get them far in life. By putting kids down and saying 'no good' to their school's football team is outrageous. Kids need an education as well as team supports to learn what life faces them. A little encourgement to the teams goes a long way.
