Once again, to "wonder why things couldn't have turned out differently" is rhetorical. The answer that "he is young and won't realize the consequences of his actions until much later in life" is a broad, sweeping statement that could be applied to any kid that gets in trouble and gets us nowhere. And the point of asking questions like that is in the hope that more specific answers can be found, even if it may be too late for Stone. I think it benefits everybody if the focus is not to analyze these "questions," but rather on finding specific and not generic answers.

(CONCERNING THE PEOPLE WHO WANT POSITIVE WRITING ABOUT LANCER FOOTBALL) Pat who on the back? I am not a lakewood fan, but I do know that the person responsible for lakewood turning around its program is now coaching CARSON...right? Since MacNeal has took control it has been nothing but forfeiting games and off field issues with the lancers.
Good article by Doug K on Jerry Stone. Coach MacNeal is a young coach who I believe is a great offensive co-ordinator much like his mentor John Barnes. I also hear he is detail oriented in his approach. This is not his fault. I wish he hadn't put Jerry Stone on defense against Poly last year in the big game but instead kept him rested for offensive duties (but I am not a football guy but a fan). With that said, let me say one last thing and this is the truth - in watching Lakewood football since 1966 three players made a lasting impression at greatness on the high school level at Lakewood - and those that go back that far know the truth about the first player - Rick Gillies - along with Luther Brown and Jerry Stone (and with Jerry Stone that was only watching him in 2 games!) I am very sad for the Lancers but you know this still may be a pretty darn good team.
Oh and Coach Ford had Rick Gillies cover JK Mckay in the CIF Title game in 1970 against Bishop Amat. Fitting enough.
