Los Alamitos vs. Edison... I read somewhere Edison is No. 1 in the state? Well, Los Al has a sophomore QB in Dylan Lagarde who's only been playing under the Los Al system for a week. Last week he had a big day against Huntington Beach Marina, but no such luck this time. Edison wins this one, 28-13.
Why don't we put up some predictions for a couple other games:
Wilson vs. Poly
Lakewood vs. Millikan
For Wilson/Poly, I'm predicting an upset. That's right, I'm going with Poly. They won't have seven turnovers this time like they did against Millikan. They still have a talented team, but inexperienced, which usually results in unpredictability. Which is why I'm picking them to upset Wilson, 21-20.
Lakewood/Millikan, no upset. Lakewood big, 34-13.
Comments?
Let's get it going... Who wins the Suburban League showdown? Give me a winner, and a score.
The Shadow's prediction: La Mirada 27, Norwalk 21...
Here's is the offical P-T Top 10 this week. (Not much different than The Shadow's. The only difference is where Norwalk is placed). Anyway, here it is:
1. Lakewood (7-1)
2. Los Alamitos (6-1)
3. Norwalk (7-0)
4. Warren (6-1)
5. La Mirada (6-1)
6. St. John Bosco (4-3)
7. Wilson (5-2)
8. Millikan (6-2)
9. Poly (2-5)
10. Lynwood (4-3)
The Shadow's Top 10 is not to be confused with the P-T Top 10, which will come out Monday night on this blog and Tuesday in the newspaper. Remember, the P-T Top 10 is the paper's "official" Top 10. The prep staff are the experts here, they go to all the games, and are talking to all the coaches regularly. The Shadow's Top 10 is just for sh*ts and giggles, but go ahead and make your comments.
1. Lakewood (7-1 ... easy choice for top pick)
2. Los Alamitos (6-1 ... we'll see what they're really made of Friday vs. Edison)
3. Warren (6-1 ... only loss came to No. 9-ranked team in state)
4. La Mirada (6-1 ... impressive win over Mayfair)
5. Norwalk (7-0 ... finally plays tough team -- La Mirada -- on Friday)
6. St. John Bosco (4-3 ... wonder how they'd do against 3-4-5?)
7. Wilson (5-2 ... Now it's their turn to play Poly)
8. Millikan (6-2 ... can they shock the world and beat Lakewood Friday?)
9. Poly (2-5 ... happy now Poly haters?)
10. Lynwood (4-3 ... gave Warren a run for their money)
Millikan 35, Poly 34 (2OT)
Lakewood 25, Jordan 0
Wilson 35, Cabrillo 14
Warren 38, Lynwood 21
Norwalk 60, Cerritos 8
Valley Christian 28, Whittier Christian 14
La Mirada 41, Mayfair 12
Gahr 27, Dominguez 21
St. John Bosco 35, Santa Margarita 14
Centennial 14, El Segundo 10
Millikan wins it in double-OT, 35-34.
Poly 28, Millikan 28, in second OT
Poly scores with a minute to go to tie the game at 28-28, but gets flagged for excessive celebration. The PAT gets pushed back 15 yards and Millikan blocks it. Game still tied with a few seconds left, probably going to OT.
It's a final.
Poly scores, goes for two and makes it, now down, 28-22 with 6 minutes left.
La Mirada leads Mayfair in the third, 28-12. Mayfair has won 52 consecutive Suburban League games and 8 consecutive league titles.
Millikan increases lead on Poly to 28-14 with 8 minutes left in game.
Lakewood 25, Jordan 0 (F)
Warren kicks a field goal to go up 38-21 on Lynwood.
Millikan has taken a 21-14 lead on Poly in the third, threatening to extend Poly's Moore League losing streak to two.
Lynwood scores again but still trails Warren late in third, 35-21.
Wilson 35, Cabrillo 0, (3)
Valley Christian leads Whittier Christian, 14-7
Bosco leads Santa Margarita, 14-0, at the half.

Int for a TD, Warren up on Lynwood, 21-7 (2)
Gahr 13, Dominguez 7, 2nd Qtr.
Poly 14, Millikan 7, 1st Qtr.
Lakewood 6, Jordan 0, 2nd Qtr.

Los Al, with Dylan Lagarde at QB, improves to 6-1 with a 52-0 win over Huntington Beach Marina.
Don't know the eligibility rules of a transfer in high school. In college, a transfer in D-I has to sit out until the following season before he can play. High school might be different. It might be a case of allowing a player to play simply because his new address is now within the district boundries. High school athletes are transferring for strictly athletic reasons all over the place these days, and they are finding loopholes in the rules to do it legally. We'll have to check this one out.
Los Al leads Marina, 45-0, and yes, to those of you who questioned the validity of ex-Poly QB Dylan LaGarde taking over at QB tonight for Los Al because the previous starting QB has quit, our reporter Frank Burlison confirms it. LaGarde has thrown for 195 yards and run for two TDs.
Word from the Los Alamitos game... The Griffins' QB has quit the team and Dylan LaGarde, who transferred earlier this season from Poly, is starting tonight.

The Angels face a true "must-win" situation Thursday night in Game 5 against the Yankees and Alex Rodriguez, above. Lose, and the Angels are done; win, and they go to New York for Game 6 Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Photo by Getty Images.

OK, let the fun begin... Now Poly and Lakewood don't have other games to focus on before meeting each other. So let's get out the calculators and add it up... final score? Let me be the first....
Lakewood 34, Poly 14...
Now Poly people, don't hate on me... I don't have a favorite... just making my best guess based on what's gone on so far this season. Best thing that could have happened to Lakewood, possibly, was losing that season-opener to Crenshaw. Poly had a good game against Jordan, finally playing a team that wasn't ranked among the best in the state. Let's get those predictions coming...
Norwalk 58, Bellflower 7
Mayfair 42, Cerritos 21
La Canada 42, Firebaugh 6
Lynwood 31, San Fernando 22

Lakewood leads Compton 54-0 heading to the fourth.

St. John Bosco 14, St. Paul 0 1st
Millikan leads Cabrillo, 34-6, at the half.
Lakewood leads Compton at the half, 34-0.
Poly leads Jordan at the half, 7-0.
Paramount is up 3-0 on Whittier in the first quarter.
La Mirada leads Glenn, 7-0, in the first.
Millikan leads Cabrillo, 27-0, in the second quarter.
Lakewood is up on Compton, 7-0, after the first quarter.
Kickoff is just a few minutes away for many local teams as they start league play. Poly puts its 15-year, 79-game Moore League streak on the line against Jordan. Lakewood is opening against Compton. And we'll try to update you on as many scores around the area as we can...
Los Al improved to 4-0 with a win over La Habra.
See the pictures>>
Los Al has increased its lead over La Habra to 28-13 late in the game.
If Los Al holds on and finishes off La Habra, anybody think Los Al should be No. 1 in the P-T Top 10 poll over Lakewood? ... Wait... just got word La Habra has cut the Los Al's lead to 21-13 with 8 minutes left in the game.... Stay tuned...
Los Al was up 14-6 at the half, not 14-7, and now leads 21-6 late in the third quarter.
In a Thursday night battle of undefeated teams, Los Al leads La Habra, 14-7, at the half. Incidentally, those are the first points allowed by Los Al all season. In their first three games, the Griffins had outscored their opponents, 124-0.
