Does the PT Telegram stand for the Poly Telegram? give me a break..... why is poly still ranked let alone in the top five.... Come on shadow... were you a Poly graduate?

First off, The Shadow is not involved in picking the weekly Top 10. That's done by the prep staff. Secondly,The Shadow did not attend Poly or any other Moore League school. Now, if we really want to be honest about ranking Poly No. 3... let's look at some things. Poly played No. 1 Lakewood tough, losing 21-14 in a close game. The No. 2 team is Los Alamitos. Poly hasn't played Los Al, but they have one common opponent -- city section school Narbonne, which is a good team. Los Al beat them, 21-6; Poly beat them 28-14. All of Poly's losses have come to tough teams (Servite, St. Bonaventure, Oceanside and Lakewood). And Poly's worst games were the first two, the mark of a relatively inexperienced team that has shown significant improvement since then. So, just for the sake of argument, who would you put above Poly at No. 3, and why?

Poly would (and in some cases, will) blow out every team ranked below them in this poll. They are a deserving #3.

1. LAKEWOOD (6-1) (By far the best team in the area. I expect them to win the ever ellusive Moore League Championship and make some serious noise in the Pac 5 playoffs)
2. POLY (2-4)(Best 2-4 team in California. Should be ranked ahead of Los Alamitos. First of all they've had one of the toughest schedules in the state. Second, they have gotten better and better each week where as Los Alamitos took a HUGE step back against Newport Harbor. Third, without a passing threat Poly more than likely will shut you down. Poly will surprise and win atleast 1 playoff game)
3. LOS ALAMITOS(5-1) (Recently humbled as expected. Oddly enough will be fighting for their playoff lives in the coming weeks and it doesn't look promising. They have a great running back but no QB or passing game to speak of. Without balance they are very limited. Don't be surprised if they do not make the playoffs or barely make it and get bounced early. Would lose to Poly for lack of balance.)

Four through Six are really a class below the top Three and it would really be a crap shoot as to who would win some of these battles.

4.NORWALK(6-0) (Hard to guage how good these guys are because their level of competition is very limited. Nonetheless, respect for continuing to win)
5. WARREN(5-1) (Gotta love Callier. He is a true talent and showed it last week against Dominguez)
6. WILSON(4-2)(Despite some early season woes and injuries, their team plays very hard. A different team with Ruffin at RB but still not dynamic enough to be "scary".)
7. ST. JOHN BOSCO(3-3) (Will miss the playoffs AGAIN and...who cares?)
8. LA MIRADA(5-1) (Booooooooooo!)
9. MILLIKAN(5-2)(Darby cannot do it by himself and it will be evident once they play Poly and Lakewood. Will most likely miss the playoffs, AGAIN!!)
10. LYNWOOD(4-2) (Always talented and always lacking in depth)

looks like our moore league fan must be a voter for the bcs. good job on the rankings.

"All of Poly's losses have come to tough teams (Servite, St. Bonaventure, Oceanside and Lakewood)." Okay Shadow then if Poly can be ranked for losing to tough teams why isnt Mayfair ranked? Mayfair lost to tough teams too (Lakewood, Los Alamitos, Chino Hills). Press Telegram is and always will be Pro-Poly/Moore League.

Like you said about poly. Mayfair has played just as tough schedule as poly. But PT obviously stands for Poly because you give no other team a chance. Norwalk has not played a good team who have they played (john glenn, south el monte)? I mean come on guys lets get real. Mayfair should easily be in the top 10 maybe 8 or so and La Mirada I mean really you need to reevaluate this top 10 because it sucks.

People need to stop getting their feelings hurt. Who on that list could beat L.B. Poly besides obviously Lakewood?? Who and how? And do not say Los Alamitos because they just lost to a very average Newport Harbor. Who and give an argument of HOW?

Poly should not be ranked No. 3. They are 2-4!

Yes, realistically speaking they're probably better than most of the other teams, but Poly has still lost 4 games this season. The win-loss record is what counts.

WOW!! La mirada?? Mayfair??? umm Maybe norwalk hasn't played tough opponents.. but the record speaks for itself! Its not the BCS standings here guys... we are not going by strength of schedule! hahaha Norwalk will beat La Mirada... The Mayfair-Norwalk Game will be the deciding game for the suburban league.. Yea Mayfair should be ranked.. but below Norwalk...

Why is St. John Bosco ranked! hahhaah wow!!!!

Remove Poly a few spots.. maybe 7.... delete st. John Bosco.... Delete Lynwood....

Mayfair.. La Mierda should be up there... and Warren should be #3... That boy callier is real good!

give la mirada more credit, norwalk has not played no good teams.la mirada will beat mayfair

My 10cents,

Poly should be ranked higher than Los Al. Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but like everyone else who's paying attention said, Poly's schedule is more brutal than most, they've improved w/each game & I doubt any of the other teams playing those opposing teams would be able to walk away unscathed & with a less than stellar loss.

Poly has a great advantage that most other HS don't - some of the most talented kids want/love to play for Poly (year after year) & results don't lie.

Lakewood has a good team this year, no doubt, but Poly was able to shut down the offense in the 1st half; unfortunately they weren't able to maintain that tenacity in the 2nd half, hence the outcome.

Lakewood may just take Moore League this year; however, IF Lakewood meets Poly again in the playoffs, I predict that Poly will prove they deserve to be in the playoffs (yet again), due in large part because of their ability to learn/adapt & repay the Lancers with an upset defeat AGAIN, and repeat last year's vie for CIF bragging rights.

'Nuf Said,
Go Green & Gold

NORWALK???? 6-0 good job!!! are they playing middle school's now? There schedule is a joke ...they might as well play pop warner teams.

Lets not get too upset here, this poll is just for conversation. What matters is the end of the season. Who makes the playoffs? Who will be the area sleeper that will go far in the playoffs? Who on this list will be a complete bust?
Los Al- WILL NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
POLY-WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS AND GET TO THE SECOND ROUND.
NORWALK- OKAY NICE RUN SO FAR BUT 3RD PLACE FINISH IN SUBURBAN LEAGUE, B-U-T MAKES A VERY GOOD PLAYOFF RUN! (*maybe wins cif*)
LAKEWOOD-WINS MOORE LEAGUE, BIG FRONT PAGE ARTICLE IN PT. BUT EVEN BIGGER SURPRISE WHEN THEY LOSE IN THE SECOND ROUND TO FOUNTAIN VALLEY OR MATER DEI.(sorry lancer fans)
WARREN- REACHES THE WESTERN DIV. SEMI-FINALS NO FURTHER.

Norwalk??????!!!!!! higher than Warren: Warren played very respectfully against the Maxpreps No. 9 team in the entire State of California;Norwalk played against the equivalent of JV teams,by SGVL standards. Young Callier would run for 750 yards against them---in the first half!!!!!!

Lakewood will take the Moore League but not get past the first round of the Pac 5 Playoffs. They have undisputedly the best talent around but they are undisciplined and too cocky and God is watching.

OMG..where's the LM Love..come on..Norwalk barely beat Glenn..Mayfair is sooooo over and done..Please..its ok..LM will prove themselves once again this friday..7pm Ron Yary stadium..ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS..LM FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!

With so much conversation, it's high time The Shadow puts up his own Top 10.

1. Lakewood
2. Los Al
3. Poly
4. Warren
5. La Mirada
6. SJ Bosco
7. Norwalk
8. Wilson
9. Mayfair
10. Millikan

How you like me now?

Nice to see you're consistent w/your pollsters Shadow. LOL!

It's all Gravy,
LVL

Thank you, Shadow. As a fan partial to Warren,I would have liked to have the Bears higher up,but even I know my Bears are not as good as Poly, doubtlessly the best 2-4 team in the nation. Perhaps, you do know best.

I have been a fan of poly athletics for 50 years.
our family is steeped in Jackrabbit tradition! to say the least. all five of us have played football, basketball and baseball and we have seen the polls over the years and each one lists Long Beach Poly as a favorite, why? HONOR!
THE 2009 team knows this and they WILL make their adjustments.

Elvis has not left the building.

According to the poster "KARMA", God is "watching" high school football in Long Beach and paying special attention to the Lakewood Lancers. Because "God is watching", the Lakewood Lancers are doomed to lose in the first round of the Pac 5 playoffs. HA HA HA HA HA HA....How moronic does that sound? So, you mean to tell me God is picking the winners of the upcoming playoffs?? What's the point of the kids even playing when all the games are "fixed" by none other than "God" him/herself??? How do you spell D-U-M-B? I can't stop laughing!!

Shadow good top 10 but in the past the PT used to have alot more about high school FB now it barely puts it out there, would the PT. Ever consider an LB varsity type section? similar to the registers oc varsity? Stories about every game small or big. a coach of the week section on wed. also? just an idea its probly been done in the past but you see the all the buzz this creates HS FB is followed alot around here.

I agree Norwalk plays pop warner teams. Mayfair has locked their running game up the last 3 years. Now they think they can win please. Mayfair will play to the second or third round in playoffs thats it. Will also win Surburban League. Not to mention Mayfairs brutal preseason schedule. With the likes of Chino hills, Los Al, Lakewood, and La Palma Kennedy. I mean honestly name one good team Norwalk played. Preseason is to make you better and stronger in the season. Mayfair is battered and beaten and taking it out on everybody in the Surburban leauge.
Go SOONS!

I get tired of hearing that "Poly Shut down Lakewood in the First Half" therefore Poly is deserving of a higher ranking.

First off the only reason the score did not get run up in that game was because the Lakewood recievers could not catch a ball to save their lives. It had nothing to do with a great Poly Defense. Once the Lakewood Offense got rolling they couldn't be stopped. It was a questionable goal line call that even kept the game as close as it was.

Finally, the only thing that matters are Wins and Losses. The record should speak for itself. Poly at 2-4 should not be ranked number 3. Don't be surprised if Poly gets beat by Wilson.

Poly has not proven anything yet except that they beat a over hyped Narbonne team that is living off the same past reputation as Poly. Open your eyes people. Poly just isn't that good.

This message is for "KARMA" and "InTheKnowALittleBit": Lakewood will get passed the first round of playoffs, because they will most likely play a last place team that barely made the play-offs. However, last year their first contender in the play-offs was Servite, a good team last year and is also a good team this year, and Lakewood beat them. I would not count the Lancer's out period, and would probably keep my mouth shut going forward. So far you've been wrong about Lakewood up until this point, because they are still WINNING. Enough said! If I were you; I would stop putting your foot in your mouth, and just sit back and see what happens. Let the party begin!!!Now laugh at that...Ha! Ha! Ha!

Who does the voting for the CIF polls. In the Western Division Warren is ranked 8th. Not bad but how can you have 3 Bay league teams in front of them. Mira Costa yes, but a 4-2 Palos Verdes team bring it on. Looking forward to Frank Bulison covering the Warren vs Lynwood game this Friday.

Hey "Very Interesting"..What year did you play football for Lakewood? What position did you play? You write to us that have opinions that we should "keep our mouths shut going forward" (temper flaring-very undisciplined) and "sit back and watch what happens-let the party begin" (very cocky). Undisciplined and cocky- You have "Lancer" written all over you.

With the fact that Poly doesn't have a legit starting QB I think you have to move them down the ladder a bit. Los Al would wipe the floor with them. The Moore League consists of two teams this year (Lakewood and Poly)... you should be looking at other leagues to fill the holes in the poll. Shadow... I'm not blaming you but this is your fault.

HEY "Very Interesting"....Did you even read my post or do you NOT understand satire? I'm still laughing, Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha...because my post just flew over your head again.

when looking at the recent comments about the polls, I wonder if the fans, qouting the late great Bernie Mac "If they know whats really goins on". Ha- HA.
Being a former coach (retired) I would ask my players:"It's not what you did yesterday or what your going to do today but how will you prepare for tomorrow?"
Poly will be prepared to answer these naysayers.

Ok 1st of all: Is this poll is reflecting how teams are playing NOW, not later in the season.

Secondly since all of these teams don't play in the same league, you have to account for verses records and common opponents.

Lastly, you have to think about pitting teams on a neutral field. Lets put it this way: If you are Lakewood, Los Al, Poly, Warren, Norwalk, or La Mirada and you HAVE TO WIN, I guarantee you that NO ONE would chose Lakewood, Los Al, or Poly.

WoW never knew there was that many Nwk Haters out there.. Granted they dont have a poly, lakewood, los al, or Mayfair Schedual but give the guys a break.. They are 6-0. I know this is not the BCS but the kids are putting up the yards and the points. The stats speak for themselfs.

Suburban league stats

RUSHING
1.Adrian Gonzales - Sr Norwalk (CA) 787
2.Dominique Small - Jr Mayfair 633
3.Billy Moore - Jr Norwalk (CA) 623

Total Rush Yards 1,410
(this is not including the back up wings and Fb)

Total points
1.Adrian Gonzales - Sr Norwalk (CA) 78
2.Dominique Small - Jr Mayfair 74
3.Billy Moore - Jr Norwalk (CA) 62
4.Elijhaa Penny - Jr Norwalk (CA) 56

Total points 196 point by there top 3 players only

They are killing there league...
These kids only know how to play one way and thar is smash smouth football.. the way they play is madden like, they take big risk on 4th down all the time.. always go for 2 points just to see if you can stop it.. and bring the house on D.. some might say they run up the score.. there mentality is right out of the bill beliche book "if you cant stop us thats on you.. if we can run all day we will"... they are going to run the ball no question about that.. the question is can you stop it.. the Sched is weak but the stats are there to back them up.. Now 4 might be a little high.. i will say most Deff top 10... i just realy want to see what happens when they play La Mirada and Mayfair.. also to seee how deep they go in the playoffs

Way to show up tonight Mayfair... La Mirada is the real deal... So much for Mayfair getting hyped up to take out the Suburban League because of their non league schedule

to everyone who said Mayfair would woop on La Mirada... HA! LM smashed on Mayfair 42-12! thats how LM football is played. Mike Moschetti has these guys going places. THE MATADORES ARE BACK!

Well put drew j..... good job La mirada.Lets see what you can do with Norwalk what goes around comes around.... this will be for Suburban League champs... Not just for fun like last year remember .. We kick your butts

SO. EL MONTE 2-5; LOS AMIGOS 0-7; PACIFICA 3-3-1;PARAMOUNT 2-5 ; GLENN 4-4 ; CERRITOS 1-7 ; NOT A WINNING RECORD IN THE BUNCH. FRIDAY NIGHT WILL BE THE TRUE TEST FOR NORWALK. AND IT TAKES MORE THAN STATS TO WIN AGAINST A BETTER TEAM. GO LM !!

NORWALK,WHO KICKED WHO'S BUTT.GO LA MIRADA !!!
