The Shadow has been out to practice, broken down game film, and now is ready to make predictions for this Friday's first-round CIF playoff football games. Let's start with the Pac-5 playoffs, naturally:
Edison 41, Millikan 6
Lakewood 27, Newport Harbor 14
Los Alamitos 24, Poly 13
Mission Viejo 38, Wilson 10
Western Division:
Gahr 35, St, Francis 28
Warren 42, West Torrance 21
Culver City 27, Dominguez 20
Southern Division:
Garden Grove 35, Bellflower 7
Norwalk 41, Rancho Alamitos 13
Segerstrom 21, Mayfair 17
La Mirada 30, Santa Ana 13
Mid-Valley Division:
Valley Christian 24, La Canada 21
Northwest Division:
Centennial 21, Harvard-Westlake 20

Wow Shadow, you have Los Alamitos beating Poly, but I think that the players at Poly will come for vengeance. And with the way Dylan Lagarde had played for Poly I think he will do the same in a Griffin uniform.
edison is the best of all the teams in top 4..
and i think los al will beat poly easy
shadowman,
Four things Poly will do:
1- Get busy on both sides of the ball.
2- React with heart.
3- Doing what it takes.
4- Be the TEAM everyone knows they can be!
NORWALK?
Nothing to look backward to with pride?
Nothing to look foreward to with hope?
@RRamerez
Nothing to look backward to with pride?
Nothing to look foreward to with hope?
another Norwalk hater, wow if anything how about you spell with pride? Because your grammar is lacking major fundamentals.
4 things poly will do
cry when they lose
complain about qb switching schools
wish there school was in a nice area
go shopping for out of area players next year
What does the area of a school have to do with Poly's tradition of winning and academics? It's the inside of a school that makes the difference, besides I guess you don't know where USC and Mater Dei are located.
There is no pressure on Poly to win Friday night. Poly is the underdog this year. We will see if Los Alamitos has finally learned how to be a physical team.
Poly can be down one year out of thirty years, look at USC.
Home of Scholars and Champions
FIRST OF ALL, POLY HAS MUCH TALENT COMING BACK NEXT YEAR. DON'T NEED TO SEARCH FOR PLAYERS THEY FIND POLY. THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ON TOP FOR THIRTY YEARS FOR NOTHIN! WHO CARES ABOUT ONE BAD YEAR, IT'S ABOUT TIME SOME OF THE OTHER SCHOOL STEP UP! AND IF LAKEWOOD IS GOING TO GET RINGS IT BETTER BE THIS YEAR, CAUSE IT WILL BE A WRAP FROM HERE ON OUT! MATER DEI AND USC ARE IN HORRIBLE AREAS, IF U DIDN'T KNOW! MANY KIDS GO TO OTHER SCHOOLS, SO THEY CAN GET PLAYING TIME, BECAUSE POLY HAS BEEN STACKED FOR YEARS. AND I KDON'T THINK POLY CARES WHETHER DYLAN SWITCHED SCHOOLS OR NOT HELL THAT GAME IN OCEANSDE HE THREW ABOUT 8 INTERCEPCIONS IN ONE GAME!! "IT WAS TIME TO GO"
Shadowman,
This is for Anonymous who posted last night 11-17-09 9:05pm
1.Never seen that happen.
2.OL'BOY LOST STARTING JOB.
3.THIS IS POLY, WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE.
Long Beach Polytechnic High School, founded in 1895 as Long Beach High School, is a High school located at 1600 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach, California.
The school serves portions of Long Beach, including Bixby Knolls, and some parts of the cities of Signal Hill & Lakewood.
Polytechnic, (or more commonly known as Poly), is the flagship high school of the Long Beach Unified School District. It is a large urban high school with just about 5,000 students.
Polytechnic has long been distinguished in both academics and athletics. The PACE magnet program and the CIC magnet program boast more total University of California admissions than any other high school in California. In 2005, Sports Illustrated Magazine named Polytechnic the "Sports School of the Century", which applauds Polytechnic's badminton, baseball, basketball, football, track, cross country, and other sports programs. Polytechnic has also received numerous prizes for its music program, including multiple (6) Grammy Awards, 2 of them being "golden signature" grammy awards.
Long Beach Poly has also sent more players to the NFL than any other high school in the country
Academics
As the school motto states, Poly is the home of scholars. In 2008, 1,573 AP exams were administered at Poly with over 75% of test takers receiving a passing score of 3 or higher.[2] The national pass rate in 2008 was slightly over 58%.[3] Poly is also the highest academic performance index of any traditional high school in Long Beach with a 2009 score of 747. Poly ranks a 9 out of 10 when compared to schools with similar demographics since 2007.
International Ambassadors were established at Poly in 1976 as a replacement for the traditional Homecoming Court. They were created due to rising racial tensions during the 1970s. The Ambassadors serve as role models and representatives of Poly's diversity. As International Ambassadors, the students must create a legacy project that will benefit Long Beach Poly and the surrounding community. Examples of past projects include: Poly Peace Day, Gang Awareness, murals, and recycling bins. The International Ambassadors uphold a great responsibility as they must present their project to the school in April. The number of International Ambassadors has grown over the years. For the school year of 2009-2010, there are a total of 14 International Ambassadors.
Long Beach Poly has been a backdrop for many television commercials and shows as well as motion pictures. Some of the uses of the location include:

4.Open enrollment dummy.
Its sad that people who have hatred in their hearts act this incompetant without first finding facts.
Great post g daddy
Poly will beat Los Al.
If QB Lagarde at Los Al gets hurt or has a bad game, they have no one else to play QB. Their previous starter left the program and another back up QB has his wrist in a cast.
If I were Poly, I would tee-off to get Lagarde frazzled. Poly will know his strengths and weaknesses - a big advantage for Poly.
You tell them gdaddy. So many people don't know anything about Poly. I'm glad you told them!!!!
G Daddy!! wow!!! nice facts! I bet you have a LB Poly tattoo across your chest!
the best high school team is from the seventies...banning high school, ferragamo, reeman mcneil and stanley wilson, back to back to back.
first off winning the pac 5 cif wont happen, servite, matai dei or edison will most likely take it...
its not like the old days when the best teams form all over actually played each other...
best game i ever saw was john elway vs freeman mcneil...banning pilots vs granda hills...
no team was ever better than the seventies pilots..
poly people think the the best in the state, no, just the good within this small little area.
Shadowman,
I would like to thank Wow for the props but I don't have the LB POLY TATT.
What I have and will always cherish is the way my parents raised me and my four brothers and three sisters seven of us graduating from Poly.
The four most important things in life ARE:
1.GOD
2.FAMILY
3.HONOR
4.LOYALTY
The things that mattered at Poly!
1.Loyalty
2.Honor
3.Family:RESPECTING your fellow students as such.
When someone disrespects your family you will always come to their DEFENSE!
GO JACKRABBITS!
I would like to see Poly win but Iam sure QB Lagarde for Los Al told coach barnes everything about Poly's offense and deffense and I don't think Poly's young team can change it enough in 4 days.
Anyone but warren !! GO DOWNEY :))
Downey is out of the playoffs, KB ,GO BEARS!! However , KB , you are invited to Justice Stadium this Friday and begin to see All-CIF first team Bears Jesse, Bailey and Augafa kick major Western Division butt the next four Fridays!!!!!!!! or you can stay home and read about Downey's CIF tie in your ancient history clippings. Warren happens, KB. Deal with it!
Why hate a cross town rival? Will the Downey Vikings look any better if their Downey neighbor Warren High Bears lose in the CIF football playoffs?
Are all the other teams from all the other cities to be preferred over your neighbor?
Wouldn't Downey (the city and the high school that 'Bears' it's name) look better if a Downey school does better?
A good Downey city-zen has TWO teams to root for.
If Warren can't represent the city well in any one year, I root for Downey to do so (and unfortunately Downey High has had some very pitiful teams for way too many years.)
This 'hate your neighbor rival' sickness is getting bad. I see it not only with high schools, but also Dodgers v Angels, USC v UCLA, Cubs v White Sox, I just don't get it.
This proud player for the
1964 Warren High football team
says CONGRATULATIONS WARREN BEARS
Represent the city of Downey proudly.
Vamos con los Osos.
Go Bears, cuz the Vikings are 'gone'.
first of all, i like to give props to all the poly supporters and major props to g daddy for the facts about long beach poly. it's funny how people hate on poly and pass judgement on the school and the people who had attended there. either they know how excellent poly is both academics and sports, but don't want to admit it or just plain ignorant. what g daddy listed was just a small fraction of what poly is all about. for us alums, we have this question we like to ask, "what you know about that green and gold". unfortunately for some, they will never know. there are lots of criticisms about poly, but it will never change the fact that long beach poly will be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there forever be!
To "Why hate a cross town rival &..." : except for the "hate" part , point well taken: I am faulted for my lack of charity. Surely in a city of some 115,000 people two high school teams can find about 90-100 14-17 year olds to play football superbly ;just consider Los Alamitos, the tiniest city in the area and the perennial successes of all their sport teams , even apart from football.
Sorry Leonides
At the time of posting Norwalk was not on the list.
The two lines are from the poet Robert Frost. The were intended as a gentle nudge in “The Shadow's” ribs to correct an oversight.
My post speaks not of hate but of love.
If you want to re-experience the thrill of a “good ol', down home, Friday night under the lights,” a game on the Excelsior Stadium bleachers will carry you there.
Best of Luck Lancers!
Attention PT readers: those of you whose Touchdown-deprived teams did not make the playoff cuts, y'all are invited to Justice Stadium on the Warren High campus in Downey this Friday(as well as likely, the Friday after Thanksgiving), to see the Warren Bears, led by the area's leading rusher---two-time All-CIF and future Washington Husky, Jesse Callier. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!
