At almost all costs I avoid making purchases at the LATeam store — that sizable showroom of overpriced paraphernalia embedded at Staples Center right near the statue-friendly entrance. The prices are one thing. The time spent in line getting to a counter is another.
Shop online, at least you avoid some of the snarls.
The latest is a four-team “buy one, get one free” deal where you probably wouldn’t buy the one thing in the first place, let alone even want two of them in your home. Look at it this way: If it’s stuff they want, why would you?
Exhibit 1: A puck in cased in plastic that replicates the Kings’ 2012 championship banner. For $15.99. A banner, on a puck in a cube. Seems far too confining.
Exhibit 3: A Galaxy 2012 champions travel mug. For $10.99. Probably left over from past Beckham drug testing.
Exhibit 4: Lakers two-pack spill-proof sippy cups. For $16.55. For ages 9 months and older. Sorry, Metta. You’ve aged out.
Search a little longer and the site and find some things even more bizarre.
== A Farmer’s Field logo football jersey. For $50.11. Be the first and only person in your neighborhood to get this soon-to-be collector’s item. Better yet, it’s only available in small. All other sizes are listed as out of stock. Tim Leiweke likely took them with him to Toronto.
== There are seven items dedicated to Chivas USA. The most expensive: A youth sized road jersey going for $40.49. If you don’t want it now, click the “Wish List” button instead. As if you’d wish it goes away.
== A grey Dwight Howard “Geeked Up” gray T-shirt. For $34.99. “Let your inner nerd shine,” it says. And last one out, flip off the light.
== An Angels fork and spoon set. For $5.99. May be used for eating contracts.
== Dodgers items? A ha. Not one to be found at Team LA store, unless you’ll go after a $90 Jackie Robinson replica jersey. And that’s only found if you do a search of “Dodgers” on the website. What do we make of that?
