L.A. Sports Council promotes Fox Sports’ Brodkin to chair

Karen Brodkin, a legal and business executive with Fox Sports, has been elected as new chair of the Los Angeles Sports Council.

KarenBrodkinBrodkin succeeds Alan Rothenberg, who will stay on the board.

Brodkin is the fourth person – and first woman — to become the council’s chair since the non-profit group was created in 1988 to help develop and attract major sports events to L.A. and Orange County.

As the executive vice president of business and legal affairs for the Fox Sports Media Group, Brodkin is involved in media right acquisitions as well as production, programming and talent deals for Fox Sports, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports digital and the 45 MLB, NBA and NHL partners with the Fox regional networks.

The former entertainment attorney had been serving as vice chair on the council’s 87-member board.

“I look forward to building on the work done by the Sports Council under Alan’s chairmanship by growing the L.A. Sports Awards and by expanding the organization’s resources in order to bring more major special events to Southern California,“ she said in a statement.
